Is buying an auction car to strip it of parts and sell the parts a good way to make money on the side? Thought about buying a Jaguar, BMW, audi or mercedes at an auction (It doesn't matter whether they run or not)and selling the parts. Chrisfix did that with a Jaguar X type

Yo Scotty, a friend had a Honda CRV towed after some shaking and non-starts/non-moves. Noticed it was leaking oil prior to this event. Tow away. shop says compression low cylinder two only, and it's dead in the lot. If what they say is true, can he potentially unplug the #2 injector and remove spark plug to drive three good cylinders home?

Is a 1985 Jaguar XJ going to appreciate in value in the future? I found one on sale that had just been overhauled for $3000. I wouldnt daily drive it as I know how bad jags from that time were (you were not the first one to tell me how bad they were lol)

Hello Scotty! Recently, my mother’s 2003 Ford Expedition XLT Has been okay. Now she has a problem where she starts the car up, it runs like normal, and then it starts making like a metal clanging noise in the engine, but it still drives. Could it be that a rod is going bad, or does it need an oil change? (It does burn oil by the way)

What do you think of the 2005-2008 Acura RL? Ive considered buying one, wanted to know if they are prone to the transmission problems that plagued the Honda Odysseys. The main reason I like the RL is it has AWD and the engine has power.

How much does it cost to convert a normal car (built after 1995) to a flex fuel car, so it can run on E85? Is it something you can eaisly do yourself or is it one of those things only a mechanic can do?

Hey Scotty, I know your dislike of modern day GM trucks, but those stuck with them can’t do too much until they start breaking. I was wondering, will AFM mode destroy my truck? If so, what do you think of “Range Technology’s AFM Disabler”?

I also wanted to ask, what do you think of a 2004 Ford Mustang GT with a manual transmission with 109,699 miles? How well built are these cars? Heres an example of one. However I will have mechanic inspect the car (I would do it with any car I'm buying used, no matter what it is).

Hey scotty. I know you think Infiniti G35s can be money pits, but are they reliable if you get a manual transmission? I know that much of Nissan's Post-Renault merger automatic transmissions are unreliable. I'm asking this question because I found a 2004 infiniti g35 sedan (it has the manual 6 speed gearbox) with 114,000 miles for $5k. I dont plan on driving it much, most of the time I will do shorter trips. From what I know the fatal flaw on the Infiniti G35 models of the day were their automatic transmissions. I also wanted to ask you, can you tell me what problems I should look for when checking out a G35?

Hi Scotty, I currently have a 2014 ford fiesta with that terrible dct transmission, however it has 36000 miles on it so I am hoping it will last me a few more years. Ford has replaced the clutch multiple times and I think it has finally been resolved. My problem is you recently made a video about the Acura ILX and you said that DCT is actually very durable and reliable because of the torque converter. Would you still recommend that car even though the history of DCT reliability hasn't been that great? If so I will put this car on my short list for my next car. I was also thinking about the 2019 Honda Civic Si with the standard transmission, however I am concerned about Honda's 1.5t oil dilution problem and can't seem to find an answer to whether it has been resolved or not, so I would prefer the engine in the 2019 Acura ilx, but it's that DCT transmission that has me questioning its longterm durability. (Also I live in Minnesota so the rear wheel drive lexus IS is not a good solution).

hey scotty,

I have a 07 tc auto with 125k and the engine takes a bit longer than normal to start when I crank it. At first it seemed intermittent but now it’s pretty much every cold start, maybe due to the whether change (im in north TX). I actually have some spark plugs I bought for it a few months ago. Should I try that? And if that doesn’t work, what should I try? Only thing i’ve changed on it since owning it for a few months is oil and air filter.

Thanks!

Hi Scotty, i saw your update on the upcoming GF6B oil type for GDI engines. I've been using Amsoil Full Synthetic 5W30 Signature Series and various premium filters on a 2018 Ford Escape 2L Ecoboost. The oil changes cost me more than my Mercedes oil changes with the fleece filter! Am i wasting good coin over a marketing scheme?

Scotty, My 95 toyota t100 v6 with 215,000 miles recently had a valve cover gasket replaced. No check engine light, just burning oil. Now check engine light comes on with code P0710. Would a bad VCG replacement be triggering this code or is it just a "coincidence" that all of a sudden this code pops up. Sincerely, Confused.

Hey Scotty, greetings from Toronto! Love your show

I bought a 2017 Nissan Sentra SV new before I started listening to your show. Now it has 32,300miles and I want to get rid of it before it starts to give me problems. In your experience at what mileage does the CVT transmission starts to give out?

Thank you very much.

Hi scotty, I live in dubai, i got an Audi A4 B8 with over 200km, it's been three months now, it's been riding okay, no major problem, the only issue I had with the car was the oil pressure switch, it was leaking oil badly and I had it changed, otherwise no issue, my question is is that a good choice of car I made?

Hey Scotty!

I live in Toronto and planning to buy a used car. My budget is 4000-5000 CAD. Cannot decide between a Civic or Corolla from 2006-2009. I want something reliable that I can use for the next 3 to 5 years without major repairs.

Hey Scotty, I have a 2006 Sienna with 200k miles with CEL, VSC and Trac Off lights on. Codes given are P0430 and P0420. The car has poor mpg(12), hesitant and jerks on acceleration. Changed all the spark plugs and cleaned the throttle body a week ago. Also changed the o2 sensors with after market ones around the same time. What do you think is the problem?

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition XLT 4.6 liter v8 with an oil issue. Whenever I go down a steep grade or brake hard, the oil pressure gauge drops to L(low) and the light “HI TEMP LOW OIL” turns on for about a couple of seconds and it goes back to normal with no issues or hesitations. What do you suggest I do?

Hi Scotty. I've 2009 Toyota Camry. Recently, I went on vacation disconnecting my cars positive and negative battery terminals. I made sure that terminals don't touch each other or any car part. After returning, I connected the battery terminals and the car didn't start. After few cranks it started, but stopped twice in middle of the road. Drove it for 2 days with AC ON and still it is idiling low. Any suggestions?

Hey scotty big fan I was wondering if I can pick your brain for a sec i have a 2003 toyota avalon and my key wouldn't turn at all not even to acc so I ended up having to drill the button out so I could remove in without it being in acc inserted a brand new one and it will.not turn but it will turn outside the car so I thought maybe it was a programmable problem even tho the cylinder and key that I had in it initially I can tell is an aftermarket key so I fixed the original one up had jammed tumblers put it back together now it too will turn outside the car but not when I put it in the ignition switch housing any thoughts?

Hi Scotty

I’m a new view. I found you recently by doing research on my 2016 Toyota 4Runner I purchased recently. I owned a nothing but Isuzu Troopers the last 25 years. But my last faithful steed has gone to pasture. So I replace her with a 4Runner TRD Pro. But there are new sounds that I’m not accustomed too.

The one I’ve had the most concern about is a light tapping/ticking noise coming from the engine. A Toyota Dealer mechanic told me that it’s fairly common for these engines with 30k+ miles. He said these engines tend to get a varnish build up on the fuel injection and valves but it nothing to be too concerned about.

So my concern is, did the mechanics give me the right diagnostics? If so, then I’m wondering if there are ways to reduce the noise. I did add Lucas Oil for synthetic oil and it was noticeably quieter afterwards. Someone also said I could put Miracle Oil in engine and that would help remove the varnish. I also talked to a customer service guy for Toyota about it and he said using different oil might help too. He said his Tundra runs quieter on Valvoline synthetic oil. Right now I’m running Castro Synthetic Oil.

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Darrell R.

Hi Scotty - here’s a weird one. I have a 2009 Ford Edge AWD. It misfires on me on with slight acceleration - especially on inclines. The check engine light never comes on and it’s not throwing any codes. Here’s the weird part. It doesn’t happen if I run premium gas but it comes back as soon as I switch back to regular unleaded. Any ideas?

Hello Scotty, I just wanted to tell u that I took ur advice and I got a 2001 Toyota Corolla that I use as a daily driver to deliver in. I've put 20,000 miles on it with just a little fixing up in the last 7 months and it has never left me stranded. It had only 134,000 miles on it when I got it for $1,200.00. The car has already paid for itself, however it's a car that wasnt well taken care of and I'm thinking of getting a newer Toyota Corolla, Camry, or Prius. I dont want a hybrid after watching ur videos, lol. Which model and year would u choose, in my position? Also, thank you very much for helping people with wise advice when it comes to vehicles. An honest man, I can tell. Also, before I started watching ur videos, I bought a 2011 dodge ram with 135,000 miles on it. So far, I have found an exhaust manifold leak and some minor electrical issues. Thinking of selling it and either getting a Ford or Tundra. It seems u would advise me to do that now, before I start having problems. Kinda scary because I really like my truck, it's really awesome. I've also put 20,000 miles on my truck relatively trouble free, so far; lol.
