Is it a good idea to buy a car from a wholesale auction to flip for a profit? Its Not something I plan on doing for a living btw
Hey Scotty, why did Volkswagen and Audi go crazy with diesel engines back in the 2000s with the Audi Q7 V12 TDI and the Volkswagen Toureg V10 TDI?
Hey Scotty, I recently moved to Austin and purchased a 2010 Acura Tsx v6 with 82k miles for $7800. The car was well maintained with all the service records. I intend to keep it for at least 5 years. What do you recommend I do to get most out of this car?
What's your opinion on the a 2006-2009 Dodge Charger R/T with a 5.7 Hemi V8 and AWD (this was when chrysler was owned by Daimler)? I was consdering one but I am a bit skeptical given what you have been saying about chrysler
How reliable are the TDI Audi A4s? I would think that they arent terrible as VW has been making diesels for a long time
How well do the 2006-2009 Mazda MX5s hold their value and will they increase in value in the future? I've considered buying a miata from that generation as they are more powerful than the NA and NB versions. Plus they're better on gas mileage as well
Hello Scotty, 2014 corolla S 79,000 miles. Got an Odd buzzing vibration type noise when accelerating at low speed only at 2,000-2,200 RPM. Sound is nonexistent otherwise. Sounds similar to an object being stuck inside of an area fan or something. Any ideas?
How bad were the first generation Audi TTs in terms of maintence costs? I'm talking about the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder turbo version with the manual transmission (I know that VW automatics are unreliable) and quattro AWD. They arent really luxury cars, but I am bit skeptical about buying one after seeing your videos branding VW products as "endless money pits". If I recall, the TT was made in Germany but I could be wrong.
I know you dont like modern Volkswagens, but were the 2006-2009 Volkswagen Mk5 Golf GTIs reliable if you get one with a manual transmission? What are the common problems on those cars?
Is buying an auction car to strip it of parts and sell the parts a good way to make money on the side? Thought about buying a Jaguar, BMW, audi or mercedes at an auction (It doesn't matter whether they run or not)and selling the parts. Chrisfix did that with a Jaguar X type
Yo Scotty, a friend had a Honda CRV towed after some shaking and non-starts/non-moves. Noticed it was leaking oil prior to this event. Tow away. shop says compression low cylinder two only, and it's dead in the lot. If what they say is true, can he potentially unplug the #2 injector and remove spark plug to drive three good cylinders home?
What is the main problem with modern volvos? Their automatic transmissions?
Is a 1985 Jaguar XJ going to appreciate in value in the future? I found one on sale that had just been overhauled for $3000. I wouldnt daily drive it as I know how bad jags from that time were (you were not the first one to tell me how bad they were lol)
Hello Scotty! Recently, my mother’s 2003 Ford Expedition XLT Has been okay. Now she has a problem where she starts the car up, it runs like normal, and then it starts making like a metal clanging noise in the engine, but it still drives. Could it be that a rod is going bad, or does it need an oil change? (It does burn oil by the way)
What do you think of the 2005-2008 Acura RL? Ive considered buying one, wanted to know if they are prone to the transmission problems that plagued the Honda Odysseys. The main reason I like the RL is it has AWD and the engine has power.
How much does it cost to convert a normal car (built after 1995) to a flex fuel car, so it can run on E85? Is it something you can eaisly do yourself or is it one of those things only a mechanic can do?
Hey Scotty, I know your dislike of modern day GM trucks, but those stuck with them can’t do too much until they start breaking. I was wondering, will AFM mode destroy my truck? If so, what do you think of “Range Technology’s AFM Disabler”?
Hey scotty. I know you think Infiniti G35s can be money pits, but are they reliable if you get a manual transmission? I know that much of Nissan's Post-Renault merger automatic transmissions are unreliable. I'm asking this question because I found a 2004 infiniti g35 sedan (it has the manual 6 speed gearbox) with 114,000 miles for $5k. I dont plan on driving it much, most of the time I will do shorter trips. From what I know the fatal flaw on the Infiniti G35 models of the day were their automatic transmissions. I also wanted to ask you, can you tell me what problems I should look for when checking out a G35?
Hello again, Scotty! 🖐🏼 You advise not to flush automatic transmissions, is this also your advice for CVTs? Thanks in advance & more power!
Hey Scotty! Since most Car manufacturers are swtiching over to CVT transmissions. Who would you say make the best CVT out there?
What do u think of a 2003 mazda tribute with 101000 miles for $3100
Hey Scotty, what do you think of a 1966 Volvo 1800s?
Hi Scotty, I currently have a 2014 ford fiesta with that terrible dct transmission, however it has 36000 miles on it so I am hoping it will last me a few more years. Ford has replaced the clutch multiple times and I think it has finally been resolved. My problem is you recently made a video about the Acura ILX and you said that DCT is actually very durable and reliable because of the torque converter. Would you still recommend that car even though the history of DCT reliability hasn't been that great? If so I will put this car on my short list for my next car. I was also thinking about the 2019 Honda Civic Si with the standard transmission, however I am concerned about Honda's 1.5t oil dilution problem and can't seem to find an answer to whether it has been resolved or not, so I would prefer the engine in the 2019 Acura ilx, but it's that DCT transmission that has me questioning its longterm durability. (Also I live in Minnesota so the rear wheel drive lexus IS is not a good solution).
I have a 07 tc auto with 125k and the engine takes a bit longer than normal to start when I crank it. At first it seemed intermittent but now it’s pretty much every cold start, maybe due to the whether change (im in north TX). I actually have some spark plugs I bought for it a few months ago. Should I try that? And if that doesn’t work, what should I try? Only thing i’ve changed on it since owning it for a few months is oil and air filter.
Hey Scotty. I have never seen a video of you talking about subcompact cars. What are the best used Subcompact cars for the money. Any suggestions? Between the years 2008-2013.
All the best!
Hey scotty , what is your opinion of the 460 v8 engine ? Reliable playing field or junk ?
Hi Scotty, i saw your update on the upcoming GF6B oil type for GDI engines. I've been using Amsoil Full Synthetic 5W30 Signature Series and various premium filters on a 2018 Ford Escape 2L Ecoboost. The oil changes cost me more than my Mercedes oil changes with the fleece filter! Am i wasting good coin over a marketing scheme?
Scotty I have a 2008 Toyota RAV4 2.4 liter 136,000 miles I just bought it one owner have every receipt for oil changes and maint done well 2 days ago I put it in reverse and give it a little gas and it’s pops out of reverse and goes back it and will keep doing it now what could this be besides needing a trans rebuild all forward gears are great thanks
Cant see live podcast this morning, hmmm.
Scotty, My 95 toyota t100 v6 with 215,000 miles recently had a valve cover gasket replaced. No check engine light, just burning oil. Now check engine light comes on with code P0710. Would a bad VCG replacement be triggering this code or is it just a "coincidence" that all of a sudden this code pops up. Sincerely, Confused.
Scotty I own a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport with 50K miles but it was half the price of a 44K car with the 2.7L Ecoboost engine from the F150, recently too 3 months ago. I than recently watched your Cheap car video followed by the do not buy f150 video can you tell me by chance the top things I need to look out for I want and need to keep this as long as I can is there any tips you can recommend for the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport 2.7L V6 Ecoboost AWD (should of been a ST). Thanks Scotty
Hey Scotty, greetings from Toronto! Love your show
I bought a 2017 Nissan Sentra SV new before I started listening to your show. Now it has 32,300miles and I want to get rid of it before it starts to give me problems. In your experience at what mileage does the CVT transmission starts to give out?
Thank you very much.
Hi scotty, I live in dubai, i got an Audi A4 B8 with over 200km, it's been three months now, it's been riding okay, no major problem, the only issue I had with the car was the oil pressure switch, it was leaking oil badly and I had it changed, otherwise no issue, my question is is that a good choice of car I made?
@ScottyKilmer read this!:https://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/ford-recalls-550k-vehicles-seat-strength-problem-n1048236
I live in Toronto and planning to buy a used car. My budget is 4000-5000 CAD. Cannot decide between a Civic or Corolla from 2006-2009. I want something reliable that I can use for the next 3 to 5 years without major repairs.
All the best!
Hey Scotty, I have a 2006 Sienna with 200k miles with CEL, VSC and Trac Off lights on. Codes given are P0430 and P0420. The car has poor mpg(12), hesitant and jerks on acceleration. Changed all the spark plugs and cleaned the throttle body a week ago. Also changed the o2 sensors with after market ones around the same time. What do you think is the problem?
I have a 2003 Ford Expedition XLT 4.6 liter v8 with an oil issue. Whenever I go down a steep grade or brake hard, the oil pressure gauge drops to L(low) and the light “HI TEMP LOW OIL” turns on for about a couple of seconds and it goes back to normal with no issues or hesitations. What do you suggest I do?
Scotty my parents gave me their 2003 Ford explorer it has the 4.0 liter v6 the car has 250000 miles and the timing chain went but the transmission was redone at 170000 miles and me and my friend thought about putting a used motor in it what do you think
Is a 93’ Chevy pickup made like a tank.
What do you think about 2010 Honda CR-V EX-L (AWD) with 126K mileage for $8,800? Is it a reliable SUV?
Which would you get? a 92 Camry with 162,000 for $1300, or an 02 Corolla with 132,000 for $1000
Hi Scotty. I've 2009 Toyota Camry. Recently, I went on vacation disconnecting my cars positive and negative battery terminals. I made sure that terminals don't touch each other or any car part. After returning, I connected the battery terminals and the car didn't start. After few cranks it started, but stopped twice in middle of the road. Drove it for 2 days with AC ON and still it is idiling low. Any suggestions?
Hey scotty big fan I was wondering if I can pick your brain for a sec i have a 2003 toyota avalon and my key wouldn't turn at all not even to acc so I ended up having to drill the button out so I could remove in without it being in acc inserted a brand new one and it will.not turn but it will turn outside the car so I thought maybe it was a programmable problem even tho the cylinder and key that I had in it initially I can tell is an aftermarket key so I fixed the original one up had jammed tumblers put it back together now it too will turn outside the car but not when I put it in the ignition switch housing any thoughts?
Hey Scotty im 20 years old and I live in the Houston area I own a 2005 Lincoln LS V8 Sport and I to hear your opinion on it if it is a good car or not. Another thing is im looking to be a mechanic and im wondering how did you start off getting paid jobs and how long did it take for you to know the necessary information to be the good and honest machanic you are thanks.
Hey Scotty, I know you answer car questions but I decided to give it a try. I have a 2005 Honda CRF230F is this a solid machine that I can ride on motocross tracks without the engine blowing up on me? Thanks
Ok thanks man.
Hey I know your a busy man.
But I'd still like to know your opinion on the 07 GMC Acadia that I told you about
We think its transmission problems.
But please tell me
I’m a new view. I found you recently by doing research on my 2016 Toyota 4Runner I purchased recently. I owned a nothing but Isuzu Troopers the last 25 years. But my last faithful steed has gone to pasture. So I replace her with a 4Runner TRD Pro. But there are new sounds that I’m not accustomed too.
The one I’ve had the most concern about is a light tapping/ticking noise coming from the engine. A Toyota Dealer mechanic told me that it’s fairly common for these engines with 30k+ miles. He said these engines tend to get a varnish build up on the fuel injection and valves but it nothing to be too concerned about.
So my concern is, did the mechanics give me the right diagnostics? If so, then I’m wondering if there are ways to reduce the noise. I did add Lucas Oil for synthetic oil and it was noticeably quieter afterwards. Someone also said I could put Miracle Oil in engine and that would help remove the varnish. I also talked to a customer service guy for Toyota about it and he said using different oil might help too. He said his Tundra runs quieter on Valvoline synthetic oil. Right now I’m running Castro Synthetic Oil.
Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
