Hi, I am looking to buy a new pickup after getting fed up with my silverado electrical issues. Based upon your past videos I am leaning in on either ford or toyota. My question is which would be a better choice for cold winters? (I am Canadian). Mostly for light duty, not really looking to pull heavy loads. I was leaning toward a Tacoma since after my last pick up, I felt like I had wasted my money since I did not do as much hauling as I thought I would end up doing but I love the convenience of a pick up for any yard work or large items I need to haul. Thanks!

Hi Scotty, My 2002 avalanche fuel pump wont shut off? I had to disconnect the battery. My brother said it might be the fuel module fuse? Help!

Hi Scotty Looking to replace our 08 pilot AWD that needs too many repairs. We like to keep our vehicles for 15-20 years and want something reliable, comfortable. We narrowed it down to a new...

  1. Lexus RX 350
  2. Toyota Highlander We like the Lexus , but dont want to pay substantially more for service and parts. Which vehicle do you recommend? And, does Lexus RX 350 cost significantly more for parts and service thank the Highlanders?

Hi Scotty I have a 04 Tundra 4x4 with 140k and runs great. Having probs with wifes car . It's a 08 Honda pilot AWD with 107k. Timing belt done at 105k. Now rattles at idle with serp belt on and off. Independent Mechanic who did timing belt , changed out hydraulic tensioner and this didnt stop rattling. Took it to dealer, they say it's coming from oil pump area and say it's the oil pump or main bearing. Oil pump is seeping and its wet in this area. Not dripping. Cost to repair is $1500-$2,000. Was hoping to get another 100k out of the car and have my daughter drive it when she starts driving in 3 yrs. We dont want to put $ into this car if it may be turning into a money pit or unreliable. Would rather get rid of it before trouble starts compounding. What's your thoughts on keeping the pilot for another 100k? Do you think these are signs of it starting to wear out and repairs start to pile up? Is it time to part ways with it?Are the transmissions bad on these pilots? What's a more reliable car, my Tundra v8 4x4, or the 08 awd pilot? Thanks!

Hey Scotty! I have a 2013 Honda Accord with a 2.4L Direct Injection engine. When in cold start with cold weather like today, there is a weird noise that occurs and sometimes, although the battery is less than a year old and still strong, struggles to start. I feel like it may be the VTC actuator and my car isn't under warranty. I have a mechanic who said repairing this would be more than 2 grand. I've read forums from people who switch out the VTC actuator and after the next cold season, the issue returns. Should I get this repaired, is the price right for one of these repairs, or should I just continue putting up with this?

Hey Scotty, I have a 1994 dodge ram with the 5.2 magnum engine It has 220k miles are it's s starting to burn a lot of oil It doesn't have much else wrong with it besides a slight ticking, would you recommend a complete rebuild or just replacing rings, valve seals etc. Also I have some experience in working on my truck, I have done mild to simple repairs, is this something I could do on my own or would you recommend a professional

Hi Scotty. I have a 2017 Honda Accord v6 with manual transmission and every now and then I hear a noise coming from under the hood which is more noticeable with the hood open. It seems like it's coming from the driver side of the engine. I didn't pick up on it before but after someone pointed it out to me it's hard for me to unhear it now. I asked the Honda dealer about this noise and the mechanic I talked to said that because these have a very high PSI, somewhere around 32000 or 3200 or something like that. He said it may be normal but I can bring it in and have them look at it if I'm worried about it.

Here is a link to a video I made recording the sound.

Scotty, my mom's 1998 toyota sienna started to make a small "jump" when accellerating from a stop or red light, also, when lightly tapping the accellerator from a standstill, the van accellerates on its own, gets to about 1100 rpms for about 3 seconds holding down the brakes hard, then goes back down to idling revs, my mom fears driving the van for her safety and other's saftey. Please help.

Hey Scotty I am looking to buy a used low mile van. I'm currently deciding between the ram promaster, the Ford transit, and the mercedes sprinter (least likely option) which one of these is the most reliable also do you reccomend diesel or gas engines

Scotty, I have a 2014 Honda Accord V6 coupe with the 6-speed manual. It has 65k miles. I was thinking of changing out the timing belt and water pump at 100k miles. Is this a waste of time given the cars durability? I know its an interference engine. What about the manual trans fluid?

Hey Scotty, I am new here but I have been watching you on youtube for years. You are the best! I have a 2009 Toyota Camry LE whose steering wheel won't return to the center after a left turn. I put two camber bolts on the front wheel last night, and accidentally turned the wheel to right when loosing those bolts(using a braker bar). I got freaked out and opened the door and turned the steering wheel straight without key. At that time I niticed front wheels having huge free play at 3 and 9 o'clock. After adding -0.3 degree camber to both front wheels and putting the wheels back, I found the steering wheel locked and can't start ignition, so I tried to turn the key while turning the steering wheel and it worked. Now the right turn feels normal, and the steering wheel has no free play when engine is off. But after a left turn, it could only return to about 90 degree to the left. And when driving straight, it could turn to left by itself because there is no resistance from the left side. I have watched some of your videos but I am still not sure if it's me turning the wheel without a key damaged some parts. Really appreciate you sharing helpful experience to all of us, and wish you could help me out. Thanks again Scotty!

hey scotty good day to ya, my 2007 Acura Type S oil gauge started going down after my daily commute on a new route that was under construction, after a week or the light came on but i knew i recently had an oil change, it would seemed the right side of the road roughed up underneath the timing belt around the oil pump area ive seen and heard that is a very common accurance for the cars model someone unproffessional blatantly suggested i get a new engine because of the rattling it makes now whenever the engine which it never did until the day that it shut off on me on the highway, i'm afraid to move it out of my parking space at home to not worsten the situation nor have the tool at hand to lift it to exactly where the leak is coming from, the engine hardly has any miles on it & this has be the 1st problem ive had to far with the car i'm contemplating using a seal or replace the O ring or any other seal, i just can't afford a whole new engine or willing to go to that extent, before i contact the acura dealership, tow it there & let them handle it ,what are thoughts or actions u would take in such a situation, thank you .

Hi Scotty, thanks for a great channel with lots of practical advice. I'd like to get your thoughts on the time required to warm up cars from a cold start. I know some advise ~30 secs of warm up time before setting off slowly. However, it's between -15C to -30C (5F to -22F) in Northern Canada right now and I'd like to know if this is sufficient or would a longer warm up time be recommended. Car is a '08 Rav 4 V6 with ~225K kms (140K miles). It does comes with a engine block heater but I don't always have the means to plug it in.

Hey Scotty, I love your videos, and have been using them for years to help maintain my 07 Yukon XL (170k miles) but I have a question to run by you. I just bought my dad's 2013 Chrysler 300 with the 3.6 pentastar,(got it on the cheap). I know it's been well maintained, and has had regular fluid changes. My question is, I know you say the automatic transmission is a weak point in the vehicle, what do you think about adding a auxiliary transmission oil cooler? Do you think it will help extend the life of the AT, or is it not worth the $75 or so it costs to pick one up? Thanks for the years of invaluable assistance!

Hi Scotty, first off I'd like to say, I love your channel and it's been very helpful with me restoring my classic, a 1970 Cadillac Deville Convertible it has 68,0000 original miles on it. Looking to get better mpg (wrong vehicle for that) Lol. My question is could you do a video on your thoughts on a throttle body fuel injection on a classic such as that or sticking with the carb, I'm planning to use it for a daily driver, I'd greatly appreciate it Scotty!

Hey Scotty I have 2006 GMC Sierra cl with the 5.3L aluminum block engine it has 166k miles . Is it ok to continue to put Lucas oil stabilizer in it since it burns oil, also the previous owner changed the oil with 10w/30 is it ok to continue putting in 10w or is it bad to go back to 5w since that is what GM says to use? I’m asking since I saw your video about not putting Lucas oil in modern engines thanks
