Hi Scotty, I'm removing my head to replace the valve stem seals, head gaskets, and clean up my Lost Motion Assemblies. What do you recommend how to clean up the inside of the head where the cams/valves are? Should I soak the entire head in purple power?

Hi Scotty. I bought a 1999 Honda CRV manual transmission from a friend of mine that he had been driving it for a couple of years. The problem is that when I'm on the road and on 5th gear the speed would be 60 MPH but the RPM is 3.5 and it gets higher. Even when I drive in the city and the gear is on 3rd or 4th, the RPM would be 2.8 or more. The car drives fine and everything else works. What do you think that my friend did to it? and how to fix it?

Hi Scotty, what do you think about buying a used 2015 Nissan Versa with a CVT transmission, and with over 70k miles?

Hi Scotty, do high compression engines' exhaust smell differently from regular compression engines? I did a compression test on my car and the numbers were overall consistent throughout all four cylinders, I could see carbon build up on my pistons through the spark plug holes. Is it necessary to clean up the carbon build up?

Hey Scotty I have a 2000 Silverado with just over 300,000 miles. Overall the truck is a good runner but I have trouble codes for the catalytic converters. I live in an area with no smog or emissions testing. Should I worry about the cats? Thanks.

Hey Scotty my name is Jay Q and I love your channel. I have been considering buying a new Tacoma but I felt like the transmission didn’t know when to shift. I was told by the Toyota salesman that the reason the Tacoma was a horrible performer is because the transmission has to learn my driving habits. Sounds like bs to me. Can you please make a video dedicated to explaining these new learning transmissions and set the record straight? Thanks!

Hi, Scotty .i watch your video without failure. I have a Skoda Octavia 2003. the other day a got an engine light check. I used an OBDII/EOBD which showed code PO130(bank 1 sensor1). The freeze data, since I don't have live data, are as follows : DTCFRZF PO130 FUEL SYSTEM OL LOAD% 29.8 ETC(f) 136 SHRTFT % 0 LTFT% 0 RPM 949 VSS 29

I/M

MIL STATUS ON MISFIRE OK FUEL SYSTEM OK COMP COMPONENT OK CATALYST MONITOR INC HTD CATALYST N/A EVAP SYSTEM INC SEC AIR SYSTEM INC A/C REF MON N/A OXYGEN SENSOR INC OXYGEN HEATER OK EGR SYSTEM INC

I saw a lot of videos for O2, MAP, MAF, IAF, on youtube but it did not help me to pinpoint the problem. The fuel system is open loop even though the engine is not cold. Can you please help me to correct the problem? Tks/Michael

Hi Scotty, got a 2000 Suzuki Carry 1.3 microvan, when you release the clutch it bangs on the rear wheels and the whole rear suspension moves forward (it is rear wheel drive) also when engaging and disengaging the clutch it feels very jerky and loose but when operating the clutch extremely precisely and slowly the banging / jerkiness dissapears. What can it be? Greetings from Chile, i know that you dont like Suzuki cars but they are super popular here and believe it or not they are well known for their reliability, this one has been a work horse its entire life and it has been neglected and overloaded. Thanks and respect!

Hi Scotty, got a 95 corolla wagon with 385Kmi on the clock, manual transmission is making a growling noise when the clutch is engaged (pedal up), noise goes away when disengaged. I think it is input shaft bearing. Given the miles on the car, should I spend ~$1K to get transmission replaced? Car is in OK shape (mechanically) other than this issue. Thank you.

Hey Scotty. I my son is looking for his first car and he's wanting a 2012 Ford edge with 106,000 miles for $10,000. Was just wondering what you think of the car and if it is a good deal or not.

Thanks, Dave

SCOTTY,

Greetings. As a fan and DIYer, your channel is a godsend. Ok, enough with the shmoozing.

You can go on and on about cars and their manufacturers and all that and continue answering questions and helping people with their choice of vehicles and or their car troubles. But how about a thought experiment.

What kind of car would you design for the present day and age? Why not make a video of using your 52 years experience into designing a vehicle? Further, as a fellow car lover, what would it take to bring the US back into manufacturing vehicles that set a standard, like the way Toyota does, not only in design but also in employee/company relationships? Not like GM that is looking to BAIL on its own country for profits in China or any other manufacturer who is looking to make a quick buck. A true US automobile manufacturer that gives a shit on every engineering aspect of that vehicle that makes sense. I think our country needs that, but that's just my fantasy.

Imagine, a Scotty K series engine? whooop dawgie, it tickles my insides on the idea.

All the best! and thank you for being you!

your comrade,

Ramsses

Hey Scottie! Truly fan of your works here from Philippines, I hope you can also help me my honda accord 2004 2.0 AT has some issues when your revving up to 60 km/h and you release the accelerator it creates this weird rattling cymbals like sound .

Our mechanic says i need to overhaul the transmission though it only ran around 80,000 miles and used only as a reserved car? should i replace and overhaul it using surplus parts also it will cost me like 1000 USD to do it.

Also mind me to ask you About toyota land cruiser prado, I know you do not have it there in states. its a rebadged upper version lexus gx , I wanna hear your thoughts on buying it I know it drinks Gas like 20km/100 L here but here in Philippines its a classy car and roads here are not as perfect as it is in the states. some rush floods and road bumps. and etc. maybe it will last for quite sometime but will it not be extinct due to the present modernisation of vehicles through electric- hybrid?. is it still worth buying say 55k USD. equivalent.? or will it not have a new model soon since its platform is based on 2009 I hope to use it like about 10- 15 years as this will be our cool wedding gift. sHope to hear from you!

Hi Scotty, is it alright to replace a head gasket on a 4 cylinder Honda, with out machining the head and block if they are not warped?

My Acura TSX 2006, 325,000 miles on it has recently had the AC go out.

A few months ago I replaced the AC condenser and that fixed and AC issue I had along with the two fans in the front of the car that went out causing an overheating issue.

Months after that the car AC got worse and has progressively gotten worse.

Last week I had it vacuumed and refilled and it never got cold, only the passenger side get's kind of cold when its cool outside but when it's over 80F both sides basically do nothing, and the driver side is never even cool.

It probably has a leak but it seems like it leaks a really small amount because the pressure stays fine.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I would do to fix this? Could it be the compressor?

Hey Scotty I just did an oil and filter change on my car. I put in the 4.5 qts it says, but the dipstick seems to read high. Have I possibly overfilled it a little? Is it harmful? Thanks!

Hi Scotty, love watching your YouTube videos. I was wondering about your thoughts on newer Buick products, specifically the current gen Encore. I wasn’t sure if that brand was included in your dislike of GM in general or not as it hasn’t been mentioned much. Also when looking for used vehicles, what is the best way to judge reliability? Is there a preferred resource for that outside of personal experience? Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work

Hey Scotty I have a 2016 Honda Civic and the dealer gave me a sticker to come back for an oil change at 15% is that good for the car or should I always stick to a certain mileage no matter what the percentage?
