Hi Scotty,

Greetings from Sacramento ca long time follower here… on your recommendation I purchased a preowned one owner 2010 ES350 Lexus with 130k on the dot…. I defiantly want to get the most life out of the vehicle and most all services were done. However I have heard conflicting things regarding changing the transmission fluid… one dealer refuses to touch it while another offers to drain in fill …. Do you think it is safe to do with currently 132k on it, assuming it's never been done before? I have no clue what to do and don’t want to cause any problems… the vehicle has mostly highway miles as well.

Thanks so very much! -Nathan Palafax

O, Scotty the 'Mechanical Messiah'. I recently took my 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0 turbo (yes, I know..) to get the purge valve solenoid fixed at a local garage, which they did, only to have another issue with the wastegate adapter when I picked it up. I took it back to them and they claimed they could not fix it due to their scanner not being able to show the voltage they needed to see (they also got very defensive when I asked about other scanners). Do you really need a professional grade scanner to see the voltage, or will a multimeter from a hardware store do the trick (so I can fix it myself)?

Hi Scotty, big fan! I have a 2011 Malibu; Tires on it are 215/55 R17 (93V) I ran across a great deal recently: Two Kumho Ecstas 225/45 R17 (94W) and two Continental ContiPro Contact SSR's 205/45 R17 (89V) at $30 bucks apiece! Can I put the 225's on the rear and the 205's on the front? (Figured I could sell them if I couldn't but just the Continentals retail $200 each!)

I have an ‘05 chrysler pacifica with 142,000 miles. When I press the brakes they will occasionally make a sort of slipping noise like the brakes are braking and releasing many times rapidly. It doesn’t matter wether i am pressing the brakes hard or soft or weather it is raining or not. I took the fuse out of the abs system and replaced the brakes and rotors with akebono pads, but it still happens. The brake fluid is full but brown. Please help thanks!

Hi Scotty, I love your video's! Back last August, I bought a 2006 GS 300 Lexus, I've been putting oil in it like crazy. I'm getting about 500 miles and having to add another quart of oil. My old 2000 GS 400 never burnt oil like that. What's up with this Lexus???

Hi Scotty, I want to buy a classic early 60s Chrysler as a hobby/novelty/weekend car. What are the first few maintenance things to do to it to get it up to shape after finding this hidden/ rust free/ unrestored unicorn? I am looking at a 383 or 413 big block with the famed A727 automatic. Thank you for your funny and very helpful videos!

Hi Scotty, I went for a test drive in a 2005 Honda Jazz. The interior of the car and exterior looked decent, but during the driving it appeared the throwout bearing on the clutch was worn. The mechanic/salesman said he would replace it, but not the whole clutchset. Also, he said the A/C worked but it didn't. I'm thinking I'm getting scammed falling into maybe an endless moneypit. What would you suggest doing? I'm breaking my head over it.

Hi Scotty What’s your opinion on the 2008 Ford 5.4L 3v engine? Are the long lasting? I have one now with roughly 74,000 miles on it.

Hi Scotty my name is Brittany, I have a 2000 chevy tracker giving me issues. When I brought it, the body has about 182,000 mi. The engine I don't know because he didn't tell me. The car ran for 3 days with a hard shift from park to drive or reverse. On the 3rd day the radiator cracked car smoked and was shaking. I told the guy (mechanic) what was going on he got the car and put in a new radiator. He said it was good to go. I took it for a test drive and it still had a hard shift, smoked and shook after driving for 5 minutes. I called him back said it still has issues. I took it back one of his other mechanics said its fine to wash it because it could be the fluid from replacing the radiator that spilled on the engine burning off. The shaking is from the fuel treatment breaking up the the junk in the engine. He said just to spray the engine down with water and it will go away. I did when it cooled down. The next day I took it for a test run to the mailbox up the street. Still shook, hard shift, then died half way home. It now cranks but wont start.

Hi Scotty, I have a 2001 Honda Prelude Type-SH with the ATTS (Active Torque Transfer System). The exhaust has a sweet smell, it blows a little bit of white smoke when accelerating, I think I might have a hole in my head gasket. I just hope that my piston rings are not shot. The car seems to have sufficient power and does not have a problem with oil consumption. Any idea if it's most likely the head gasket and not the piston rings? Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated, thank you for what you do!

Hi Scotty,

I am a big fan. I bought a 16 Altima, which I know has terrible cvt. It drives really well. It's running 74k miles in it, no problem except when the fuel runs really low, sometimes the engine needs two tries to start.  What about the engine? Is it any good?

I have a 2000 Ford focus ZX3 I went to start at this morning and smoke started pouring from the rear of the engine smelling like coolant and oil loud knocking sound can't tell if it's a lifter or rod knock but oil light is also flashing and 🏇 power is non-existent

Hey Scotty! I have a 2013 Chevy Sonic RS.

Over time my AC has slowly stopped blowing cold air. It now makes a very sight hissing noise as if there's a tiny snake in the vents, but only blows warm air. Do you know where I could start to diagnose the problem?

Hey Scotty - I subscribe and love your YouTube Channel! I really appreciate your efforts- thanks!!

Anyway - - I’m retired now and just finishing a fairly extensive rebuild ( I did everything I could short of taking the body off the chassis- which it did not need - almost zero corrosion). I let the car sit for about 1.5 years, occasionally running it up on the same crappy gas. I should have drained the tank - I know. I screwed up! It runs now but hesitates and tries to die when I try to accelerate.

Probably too late but I flushed the tank, changed the fuel filter, added new fuel (about 10 gallons)with a cleaner/stabilizer, ran the car until i used up the fuel and sprayed carb cleaner down the carburetor throat. She still hesitates when I try to accelerate.

Any suggestions? Otherwise, next step for me is to trailer it to a shop to pull and clean out the carburetor.

Thx

Hi Scotty, What do you think about the Honda hybrids with the E-CVT "transmission"? More reliable than their traditional or CVT transmissions? I'm helping my mom shop for a hybrid replacement as part of a California "Clean air" program and I'm deciding between the Camry hybrid and the Accord or Insight hybrids. Thanks!
