The Myth Of 20 Thousand Mile Oil Changes

Scotty Kilmer, mechanic for the last 50 years, shows how the modern claim the Mobil makes for their new oil which is supposed to last for 20 thousand miles between oil changes is more of a myth than reality. IF you want your engine to last a LONG time, watch this video and don't be fooled.

You are welcome. where it comes to aviation, marine, things like generators, heavy equipment they are serviced based on runtime. I have seen 200 hrs as a nice round number for an oil change. In the city with the average speed of let's say 25 mph A to B it boils down to 5000 miles oil changes. For all highway driving you can get away with with 15K miles changes or even 20k with mobil magic mystery oil. If you run a cab in NYC 2000 miles may be pushing it.

a more accurate way to change is by engine hours. For example if you drive 7000 miles on the highway at 70 mph you only put 100 hrs on the engine which is nothing. On the other hand I saw a vid of a late model low mileage Mercedes that got towed in with a broken engine. Guy had a chauffeur who sat in the car all day and ran the engine. Byy the time car got to 10K miles the hours were astronomical and the oil was so gummed up the engine was junk.
