Whats the Transmission Deal? Had a 2003 Ford Focus wagon. 148,000 miles, on a trip the Colorado, transmission lost high gear...was able to get it replaced by a good shop in Denver. The transmission was a rebuilt from TranStar with 18,000 mile warranty. Drove home to Tulsa OK and just short of a month home, and the transmission started making a terrible noise and would not shift. Denver shop had me take it to local transmission shop. This fail made the car un-drivable, and when AAA picked up the car they could not get in into neutral. Anyway, the local shop took two weeks to iron out warranty issues with TranStar and we picked up the car after they put in another one of TranStar's units, and not even 2 miles away from the shop it stopped shifting into high gear. Back to the shop we went, and they took in apart and found metal shavings in the pan...bad news, so once again they got another TranStar unit, and put it in. I drove it several times and it was fine. But, my wife and I got nervous about the car after this, and traded it off for 2015 Honda CRV...The transmission shops I worked with did a great job, and the fellow in Denver paid the difference in the labor cost as TranStar's warranty only covered $250 in labor which is hardly a few hours labor in a shop. So, good shops, but really bad rebuilds from TranStar. Whats the Deal with TranStar!!?
