A full-time 4WD system is not like AWD. Like a part-time system, you can manually switch it between 2WD and 4WD. But unlike a part-time system, there's an automatic mode that you can set it and forget it. In the automatic mode, it will switch between 2WD and 4WD depending on the circumstance. AWD is sending power to all 4 wheels all the time, like Scotty's cat Lucy.

AWD is a system that drives power to all four wheels all the time. A full-time 4WD system means that you can leave the system on automatic mode, which will switch between 2WD and 4WD automatically. A part-time 4WD system is a system without an automatic mode and you'll have to switch between 2WD and 4WD when desired.
