R1234yf Refrigerant. Auto makers are slowly moving toward a new refrigerant for automotive air conditioning systems. The new refrigerant is R1234yf (HFO-1234yf), and it will be phased in slowly over time starting with some 2014 model year vehicles. It costs a small fortune per pound, BUT 134a is totally compatible with it, so guys will be using that for quite some time if you ask me..

I hear that 134a is going away. Whats coming to replace it? Will it require costly changes to the vehicle?

not a good idea (I assume you mean 134a system.) 134a is really cheap to purchase here, i get it for about 2 and a half dollars a pound. It would not work as well either, though it would cool
