I had a 1.8 automatic one, very economical, made in the UK. I would not want a tiny 1.6 for myself. These are economy cars, very cheaply made but extremely easy to work on and made well. I had to scrap mine because the damn previous owner used it as a taxi and never changed the oil, all slugded up and destroyed everything inside. Look at the exhaust pipe, if it's black don't buy it, it means that it burns oil, also look for sludge on the inside of the oil cap. If oil level is low, don't buy it, it means the same thing. Even an engine like that would pass emission test and run smoothly, so the mechanic needs to do a compression test etc to detect problems
