Where i live you can buy a small car that will last for over a year for less then $400. So are they worth fixing? not in my opinion.

I'm not making up any stuff Mr. Kilmer. I'm saying what the owners manual says on a modern Toyota. On my parent's Toyota Prius, Toyota says to change the oil every 10,000 miles. If you follow what your owner's manual says, you will have a car that will have little to no problems in the long run.

that's why I'm here, lots of things you can do yourself OR knowledge you can have about your car so you don't get ripped off. A mechanic who has a smart customer knows he can't just make up stuff to them.

The truth is, to avoid the problem of mechanics who charge too much, do routine preventive maintenance on the vehicle. On modern Toyota, you do the required services every 5,000 miles.
