Scotty, thanks for saving us Thou$and$ in DIYs. For '98 RAV4 powdercoated black 1.5-in. tubular steel Horse grille/brush guard: Lower strut got bent 3-in. out-of-true when used to tow RAV4 out of a ditch. Local welding shops won't call back w/ quotes. Friend says welders charge too much. Repair it or buy $374 new one? Body shop said "Forget it." Wasteful to buy a whole new one just for one bent strut BUT looks terrible-trashy now! Any way to fix besides finding a welder?

HILLBILLY FIX. OK. Resolved. Local welder said he'd "heat & bend & re-paint" $175. But he said it'd STILL not look the same-- just buy a new one at $374.00. But he didn't offer to give me the $374. Instead, I straightened it as good as it's gonna git (considering original distortion of bent strut). I fabricated a "reverse push bar" from pine; heated strut w/ MAP Bernozomatic TS4000 Torch; inserted pine block between a cement highway divider and grille guard's bent strut. Then hit the gas. Repeated this 7-times. HAPPY w/ result: 1/ Looks better than before! 2/ Saved $374, or $175. Anything but having to look at that old bent strut. Barely noticeable to me now.

Scotty, thank you. What guys-- shops that advertise "welding" just do mufflers. The local iron fence guy won't call back. What kind of shop? Auto body? Industrial welding? Who stocks 1.5-in. steel tubing? Again thank you for your wonderful, generous help.

heck, try whacking it while heating the middle up with a torch so it bends. If not, guys here would weld a new cross section on for 30 bucks in Texas
