For the past 100,000 miles my 2003 Infiniti FX 35 transmission slips on occasion (a coupla' time per month): What do you recommend? Lucas? Can I over-fill the fluid by adding a full quart of lucas?
This is a daily driver I have owned since I bought it at 50K. Maintained impeccable.
Occurrence of the slip: typically when cold and just shifting from park. Also, just after I pull out of my driveway and I drive 30 seconds and slow and take a right turn, the tranny downshifts and slips for a second before going back into gear. The slip has not worsened over the 100K miles nor is the slip ever more than a second. Mostly highway miles, naturally. Quite annoying!
I hate this annoyance since it makes my otherwise pristine Infiniti feel old. I put about $1,200 into the car every year keeping it mechanically and aesthetically pristine and am happy to continue that until the tranny or engine fail completely. This strategy also keeps the tax man at bay and its a fairly low cost for driving a sweet ride that is a fun car.
The car has 270,000 miles and that VQ35DE 6 cylinder engine shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. I have changed the tranny fluid a few times both with the Matic-J Nissan fluid at home and a power-flush. I have also tried the Auto-RX "mechanic in a can" but the mild slipping problem persists.
Can I stop the skipping and should I even bother with the 300,000 mile maintenance? Do you recommend any other service to keep the car in service to 400K?
