Scotty! Congratulations for your program, big fan of you. I have a question/challenge for you. You see, My father owns a 1997 Mercedes Benz, which is a beautifull pile of junk. Last failuer of it was the automatic transmission oil pump. It was repaired and recived a complete service (change of clutch packs, new oil pump, a whole bunch of money as you can imagine (6 grands). The problem is that once it was repaired, the automatic transmission cooling system broke down and all the job become crap. The mechanic who make this work (I know, I call myself a Lawyer&mechanic, but the fact is that I hate Mercedes so I don´t even touch them, so My father pay´d a profesional mechanic to do that job) told me that "is needed to replace de radiator of the car in order to fix the problem, because Mercedes uses the water radiator to disipate heat of the transmission and because of that radiator broke the transmission fail again". He acepted tu rebuild the transmission because of the guarranty it has so he will fix the transmission by his cost but my father must pay the radiator replacement, but just that only radiator cost arround 2000 dolars more! Without even talking about hand job, coolant or the system to be cleaned. So It came to me an Idea that want you to tell me your opinion: Instead of buying a new crap Mercedes Radiator, buy a big AC radiator of a Nissan Xtrail. The idea is the folowing: close the automatic transmission line ports of the original water radiator (because it still works fine keeping the engine temperature where the manufacturer want´s it) and join with speciall hooses the transmission cooling lines to a new AC radiator, which instead of beeng filled with Freon gas, would be dissipating the heat af the transmission. I have plenty of room in that engine bay for creating a platform to install that crazy creation, but I want an expert opinion first. I can also sue this mechanic but It will take a lot of time and mke my father have a bad time with it, and beside, a new air conditioner radiator cost just about 80 buks so is not a big deal. Sorry about the loooong history but I didn´t want to miss any detail and be the clearest as possible. Thank you for reading me and have a nice day!
