Hey Scotty. 2005 Acura TL 160k, code p0138. Replaced the o2 sensor and fuse, and I can’t find an exhaust leak. The car sounds loud. What could be the problem + what should I check, thanks.

Hi Scotty,

Got a 2008 Jeep Patriot, automatic 2.0L 4 cylinder engine with 175,000 miles on it. The engine is rocking making a knocking sound.

  1. What aftermarket products would you add to fix this problem? STP?
  2. Lately between oil changes, I'm short one quart of oil meaning it's burning too much oil. What can I do to fix this?
  3. Transmission is slipping too and hasn't been changed in 10 years. Would changing it harm the car?

Hi Scotty,
My son, Andrew, is a huge fan. He watches your videos daily. For Christmas, all he wanted was an ‘endless money pit’ from your store. He turns 16 on April 26th. With COVID-19, there isn’t much we could do for his birthday. He can’t even get his drivers license. Was wondering if you could give him a shoutout on one of your videos for his birthday? Thanks!

Hey Scotty, I drive a 2011 Subaru Forester with 85k miles. E-brake doesn't always work and power steering makes a buzzing sound when I'm driving at lower speeds. What could be the issue?

Hi Scotty, every few months I have to top up the coolant on my 2011 Ford Escape v6, as the coolant level gradually drops towards the low fill line (I always check the level when engine is cold). No smoke or leaks as far as I can tell. What’s causing this? Thanks.

Hello, I have a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville with 309K miles. I was doing my valve cover gaskets today and i had to remove the spark plug wires but of course some of them had the metal ends stuck on the spark plugs so i bought new ones and put everything back together and now it won't start. Sounds like it's not getting spark. I know I have the correct firing order and the wires are on as car as I can go. The car ran fine earlier that day. Should I just assume I got bad plug wires out of the box? I bought the Duralast ones at AutoZone and they say made in Mexico so I'm not sure.

Hey Scotty, my fiance and I are thinking about buying a 1990 Mitsubishi Montero with 200000 miles automatic transmission. We're gonna be getting it for 300 bucks and from the pictures we've seen it seems to be in pretty good condition. We havent seen it in person yet but just wanted to get your take on it. I plan on keeping it as an antique car, what are your personal thoughts and as an experienced mechanic?

Hey Scotty, I've been looking at a 2013 ford fusion for a daily driver. It has 43,000 miles, and a 2.0 ecoboost turbocharged engine. I've done some research and come to find out they have a lot of recalls for this car, i was wondering if its reliable car or not. Right now i have a 2008 Mustang v6 with 133,000 miles just figured due for an upgrade with something newer and lower miles.

Scotty - I called Toyota service dept to enquire about fuel filter for my 2012 Camry. They are saying it is non-serviceable for my car as it is part of fuel pump assembly. Is it true? Does that mean I should not replace fuel filter until the fuel pump has a total failure?

Hello Scotty,
I have been working on my own car (classic car) ever since, but I'm now having trouble diagnosing what can be causing this.
Car details: 1982-Mitsubishi-Lancer-Mileage not really sure - Manual transmission, RWD, 5-speed. I used the car for like 2 years before the problem started occurring.
Some more info: Engine is a 4G35 (1.7L inline-4, chain driven, carburetted, points distributor) I believe it's be rebuilt before, not by me.
Problem: Car jarks (back and forth) when reaching RPM around 1.5K and smoothens out at >2K. This happens at almost any gear, mostly 2nd gear to 5th, I usually don't reach that high of RPM at 1st gear.
But I think I also observe a different feel at 1st gear while accelerating, it also feels like jerking but at slower frequency, cant really describe it. Maybe like a half second delay then surge and so forth.

Things I've done so far:
Replaced the ignition coil, hi-tension wires, spark plugs, changed contact points, verified ignition timing many times, carb cleaning/ re-built, still same response. I'm planning next to try another carb and see if it will improve. I really hope to have this fixed. Thanks Scotty.

Hello scotty, I have 2007 Chrysler sebring with 272000
Kms on it. Last year I changed some parts of the car for the shop. Like Sway bar bushings, shock absorbers and struts. Now my car is making a lot of noise even going over small bumps. It makes a lot of thumping noise. I can't figure it out what is wrong with it. Shock absorbers are not leaking or anything. You have any idea what is wrong with the car ?
Thank you.

I have been driving Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln almost all my life, I had BMWs Mercedes, Jeeps, and even the old Beatle.

I would like to have a 4 runner as my next truck. But one thing I can't have the entry keypad that us found in Ford & Lincoln. By any means can this solution be securely implemented in the 4Runner. I see lots of after market keypad. But seems non of them is up to the OEM that Ford and Lincoln offer

What do you think?

Hey Scotty, I know how you feel about BMW, but... is a 2016 328i with 25,000 miles a good deal for $15,500? Certified pre-owned and I don't drive much. I keep my cars to about 100,000 miles usually

if you maintain your cars, go ahead, but really it's 4 years old, worth maybe 14

Sounds good. I try and maintain my cars the best I can. If I may ask another question, my mother's X3 needed an oil change and we had a coupon at the dealer for $89 oil change. They wanted $1000 for the 20,000 mile service. Is a coolant flush really necessary at 20,000 miles ? I just got the oil change and did the air filters my self, but still deciding on coolant

Hi Scotty,

Got a 2006 Honda Accord 3.0 V6 automatic with 150,000 miles. A/c compressor went bad September last year. Got quotes from $1100 -$1300 to fix. Worth it? What would be a good price? (In the outskirts of Philly.)
Really don’t want to drive it during summer without a/c.

Also once car is parked outside below 40 degrees for over 8 hours makes a weird humming noise. Turning the wheel even while stationary makes it hum slightly louder. Once engine is warm humming goes away any idea why?

Thanks,
Kimo

Hey Scotty, I watch your videos and I notice you have answers for every question asked. I have a head scratcher for you here. My wife has an 09 Malibu, 4 cylinder with 102,000 miles. Whenever it rains or she washes her car, the water leaks in the car on your foot by the parking brake lever. I've checked inside and out and can't seem to figure out the issue. Please Help!

Hi Scotty. 03 honda crv 109k- i have a torque converter shudder under low load in 4th gear (overdrive on) going about 40 mph. I did a drain and fill 3 times with genuine honda (idemitsu) fluid and that did not solve the problem. could a new shift solenoid remedy the problem, or is the only fix a new torque converter and I should just live with it?

Hello Scotty, I have a 2009 Honda Accord Euro/ Acura Tsx. It has about 72000 miles and was a one owner car. On cold startups the car has a loud grinding sound and recently the engine light came on and codes show a P0339 code which means crankshaft position sensor A. Do you think it's a major issue since the guy still drives and shifts since the day we bought it. Cheers from Australia.

Hi, Scotty. I have a 2012 Ford Fusion with 119k miles. Last summer the a/c started intermittently blowing hot. My dad and I used some electronic contact cleaner around the temperature control knob. It seemed to work for a little while. It's doing it again this year. I replaced the temperature blend door actuator today, and calibrated it by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and turning the key on for 10 minutes. It's still acting up. Do you think I have a bad HVAC climate control module?

Scotty, hopefully you can help me. So I recently flushed my cooling system, then I hear water slushing around my dashboard and under it only when revving the car or when I drive. I thought I had air in the system so I paid a mechanic to do it and it does the same. It does not over heat. It’s an infiniti m35 06 vq35de engine.

Good afternoon Scotty hope your havin an awesome day. Manual transmission fluid question for you. Exactly how often should I change the fluid in my Civic? My dad changed it Sunday which he came to find out it was low on fluid which was why it'd pop out of 5th gear and to neutral on as ever since its been changed it stays in gear 5. By how many miles should it gain before needing another change? I wont be able to reply due to the app saying Unable to get messages but I thanks you for your answer

Hi Scotty, my fiance and I are looking for a used Tacoma. We've seen a few but are most interested in a V6 automatic transmission 1996 Toyota T100. The person selling the vehicle claims to have changed the engine and transmission with a 5VZE motor from a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. They say the body of the vehicle has 167k miles while the engine and transmission have 115k miles. From the pictures the vehicle seems to be in pretty good shape, I just havent seen the vehicle in person yet and checked the codes for the engine and transmission and whatever else there may be. The seller claims the vehicle has a flushed cooling system with new radiator, fresh antifreeze, and new hoses as well as new coils, new spark plugs and wires. They also say the A/C system has been completely rebuilt by a mechanic with a new compressor, dryer, condenser etc within the last 5 months. I attached some images, one of the truck and another of the sellers description for the vehicle. There were no pictures of the engine or the odometer unfortunately. I hope you can see the images because it attached them in the form of links. Please let me know what you think and thank you for taking the time to read!

Scotty! I've got a 1988 Chevrolet Nova, which was built by NUMMI in Freemont, California. GM made a deal with Toyota and so the 1988 Chevy Nova sported a 1.6l toyota 4alc with a 3 speed automatic transmission. I bought it from a private party with 52k miles on it and a blown head, overheat from neglected coolant leak. I plan on replacing the head, which I've almost completed only a month after buying the car. Scotty, I wanna know if you have advice for me in for this restoration. Which fluids should I replace? I believe its a good idea to do all fluids especially since I don't know if this car has ever had the transmission fluid changed, which is recommended every 30k miles. I believe a new head properly installed and oiled will do this car a lot of justice because it has no frame rot or much rust at all.

Hi Scotty,
I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla LE 203K. I did a drain and refill on the AT. Per the OM it's says to add back in 3.2Qts. After doing this while at op temp and shifting (in place) then rechecking the dipstick while engine running, there is no tear drop on it. Does this mean it's still low? More then 3.2 came out! I've seen in your videos you say add back what comes out to keep it simple. I think the old owner may have over filled it and I wanted to get it in the "hot" range per spec. Your time is always appreciated. Please be safe everyone.
