https://youtu.be/CpH24esRyC4 Does anyone know what this knocking could be? Lol started at 78K miles and now has 98K miles. Knocking gets a bit faster when accelerating, when the engine heats up it gets less loud. Car seems to run fine.

Kind of a long shot but I am seeking your advise on purchasing a used car. I'm split between ford fusion titanium, toyota Camry, or Nissan altima. I'm looking at 2015 models and up on all of them. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Hey scotty hope you are healthy and wealthy, i am back again with another question. So recently i bought a crv 2002 with a bad engine. I gave it to a place called Japan Star motors to have a JDM engine put in. They say their engines have only around 30k miles on them plus it costed me only 1150 for part and labour. But unfortunately after they put the engine i am noticing some minor issues. Firstly when i rev the car and while the rpms drop there is a slight rattle coming from near the engine somewhere. Next there is a light popping/tapping sound when it idles in Drive or Reverse gear. I am also getting a p0174 lean code , i tried to check for vacuum leaks but could not find any. Would that code be caused by bad soark plugs? Car seems to run fine, the engine has power and all but i cant seem to find the issue. Can you please help me with figure out these issues.

Hey scotty, just purchased a 2017 Camry XSE automatic 4l.love the car but the rim/tire combo is a bit low. Will going from 225/45R18 to 225/50R18 assist with protecting the rim and offer a bit more protection to the rim? How much more tire could I add? Would I have to reprogram the system and where would I go to do that. I live in PA where there could be potholes... Thanks for all the free education.

Hey Scotty, We are trying to decide between a 2020 Crosstrek and 2020 Forester. We live in Ontario Canada so we do experience winter but we do have 2 concerns. Do they still have head gasket problems and how many miles of trouble free ownership should we expect. We only drive 8-9,000 miles per year and are quite conservative drivers. Thanks

Hi Scotty, I’m super excited to do my first ever DIY oil change in my home garage. No more fighting dealership/chain joint up sells. What jack and jack stand would you recommend for 3-5000 lbs cars? (98 Corolla and 2015 4Runner)

Bought used from a dealership, CPO, for $25k in 2015 with 25k miles on it. Seemed to be a well maintained car. Hello Mr killer. I wanted to know what is the best 4wd/4x4 to get. I'm trading in my 2011 equinox and will be udside down when doing so. Bought it from CarMax. Wanting a used 4wd 4x4. I live in Colorado. Buying from a dealer. Probably going to use Navy Federal for finance since you said it's better than using dealership. Was thinking of also trading in my 84 El Camino to bring the upside down closer to the pay off. Or keep the equinox and trade my Mazda 3 a d El Camino for a used 4wd 4x4 that's under 7k. Trying to swap slips so no finance needed. What are your thoughts. And thank you in advance.

Hey, Scotty. I have a 2015 Nissan Sentra (automatic, around 40-50K miles) that was unfortunately involved in an accident over the weekend. The front bumper on the driver's side was almost completely torn off the car and it looks like the car may be totaled. Should I get another Sentra in a newer model year or should I consider another brand to replace it if the car should be totaled?

Hi Scotty, I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra Gxe, it’s an automatic transmission, it has 104 193 miles, also I’m from NJ , my problem with my car is that it accelerates by itself, without me touching the pedal, the rpm goes from 3 to 5, what is the problem with my car ?

Hi, Scotty love your videos. I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado ( C1500 ) 5.7 V8 vortec 196,000 miles purchased from private owner in May 2019 ran GREAT till we had a cold snap in Nov 2019 temp got down to 15 degrees that night, drove it the day before with no problems. Next morning it had a miss, has had a misfire since. Can barely feel the miss on idle but gets worse when in gear. Slow acceleration. No backfiring or smoke coming from exhaust. Took it to shop they put it on scanner keeps giving different cylinder misfires with each scan. We have changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor. New MAF and changed out EGR. They want $800 to change the spider injector not counting the cost of the injector and told us couldnt guarantee it would fix the problem. How can I make sure this is the problem, thats a lot of money, I only paid $1500 for the truck. I hear a hissing sound when I drive it, could it be a vacuum leak if yes, how can I check it for a vacuum leak? We cant change the spider injector ourselves. Any suggestion appreciated

Hey Scotty i was doing a coolant flush on my 2003 bmw 330xi because there was green coolant in it instead of blue, i drained the radiator but couldn’t get to the drain on the block (because it was such a pain in the butt) so i left the green coolant in the block and added the bmw blue coolant with distilled water, is this ok or should i try to get the bolt from the block off to get that other green coolant out?

Hey Scotty i want a BMW 760i with a v12 for a year , since leasing at a minimum is 3 years which would cost me 72,000 , right that it would be smarter to buy it and sell it within a year? Certainly the car wont be a money pit within a year and depreciation won’t be more than 72k right? What would you do ?

Scotty, My 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara xl7 2.7 clutch pedal goes all the way to the floor, its a standard transmission has 67500km. I tried changed the slave cylinder with the slave cylinder repair kit 5 times but nothing. Also changed the clutch and pressure plates, It worked for just few days, tried changing the master cylinder too, but it doesn't seem to get any better. It usually works only during the first and second tries. what could be the problem?

“If you want a Japanese car, get one made in Japan” - Scotty Kilmer
Thank you Scotty for this unbeatable car wisdom. You are so right. I once had a 15 year old, made in Japan V6 4Runner that got totaled by a knucklehead who missed a red light. I miss that car so much. Going forward, I will only buy a 4Runner as those babies are still made in Japan. Solid machines that can run FOREVER!

What are O2 sensors "supposed" to report when working correctly? Looking at live data I have 4 o2 sensors, bank 1 and bank 2, sensors 1 (for both banks) its switching between .1 and .8- .9 mv , but bans 1 and 2 Sensor 2 are are pegged at about .74 and .76 mv and when I step on the gas they both tank to like .1 or .2, and my long term fuel trims are at +7%

Are the post cat o2 sensors reporting correctly or are they all supposed to switch between 0 and 1 volts?

Hi Scotty, I have a 2007 Kia Rio 82000 miles. After filling up with gas, it cranks but doesn't start unless I open the throttle a bit, and will stall out at idle for the first 60 seconds or so. But after that it runs and idles fine and will start first time every time until I fill up again. What do you think my issue is?

In addition to my Hyundai question from before, I have what sounds like an engine tick in my 2009 Ford Focus with 175000 miles. Original owner. Religious about oil changes. The weird thing is that the tick goes away after I bring up the rpms once, then never returns after the rpms come back down. It only happens right after I start up the car. Thoughts?

Scotty, I have a 2012 Honda Ridgeline 175k miles. I drive all over for work so mostly highway. I am just now realizing I’ve never changed the serpentine or timing belt. They look and feel OK, maybe a little dry. I’m planning on leaving the car at home with the wife for a while and driving my Mazda3 for work. Is there something I can do besides park the truck to help the belts last until I can afford to replace them, and what else should I replace along with them?

Hi Scotty, my question is regarding CV joints issues. My Honda Pilot 2010 needs both CV joints replaced due to dried out cracked boots. The grease came out and dirt came in and the joints became unlubricated and contaminated.Based on your experience what is the best approach to prevent them from cracking in the future. Thank you

Scotty !! I have an Infiniti m35 2006 with 80 k miles. The biggest flaw in these transmissions is the coolant will mix with the transmission fluid. The mechanic recommended putting a separate cooler for the transmission so this doesn’t happen. SHould I do it ? I seen a video where you said not to. But I was wondering since it is a defective problem should I ?

Hey again scotty, so I went and bought that 2008 explorer. I have a hard time believing it has a shot computer since 1) I can scan all codes, 2) the radio is fully functional, except the Cd changer acting weird, but doesnt bother me, I'm gonna be putting a new head unit in soon. And 3) if the computer was shot I'd have a lot of issues with the car and its electrical systems.

Anyways, what I want to ask, is what kind of oil (synthetic, semi, or conventional ), do I pool it innit I dont know what the oil change history is of the car? I bought it off a car lot and the seller said he put semi synthetic oil in it last time.

Is it best if I stay with semi synthetic blends, or would it he safe to go to fully synthetic, and change the oil frequently, like 3000 to 5000 miles?

2002 lexus es300 110k miles price 1000$ Automatic
bad speed sensor code (sensors changed)
Me and my dad switched out rpm and speed otometer like said and only the rpm worked but no speed shown.
Numerous lights came on with the new dash from junkyard.
We had already switched both speed sensors and our local mechanic says its the computer.
We have an extra computer is this local mechanic correct?
Also how do i install this? Which one do i reset?
Mechanic charges 120 to reset and install job looks easy though.
Thanks scotty!
