Hi Scotty, Your opinion on a 2008 Rav4 limited V6 4wd auto 100,000 miles for $5,500 has new radiator, air conditioner condenser and front bumper because of a collision.... Inside and out looks to be what most would consider excellent condition. It would be my "daily driver" but I only drive 5,000-7,000 miles a year.

Hey scotty, I am from Canada and from last few weeks the weather is worse and is around -47 -48 and my car gas line got froze. I put some gas line antifreeze on it but it didn't work. The car turns over but doesn't turn on. Anything I can do? I always plug in the car tho.

I'm still learning how to use this new app. I just posted something incorrect in another section. I think I got it right now. Anyway I wanted to know if you had any videos about vacuum gauges. I haven't seen any I've been binge watching a lot. I love this stuff. I thought that I heard you say that cars had more vacuum on the road versus at idle. Didn't there used to be some quick checks with vacuum gauges to find out about engine problems

Hey Scotty! I just bought a 1997 Toyota Avalon (237,xxx miles) with the 3.0L V6 1MZ-FE engine (I believe) for $900 to be a “work and back” beater. Bought it with a P0325 code (Knock sensor circuit bank 1). From some light research, it appears the knock sensor wiring harness tends to be a common issue that triggers this code on these engines and requires you to take the whole top end of the engine off to replace the harness. I also saw a work around where you can trick the system by splicing a bridge wire between the knock sensor 1 and the knock sensor 2 wire. Apparently it can trick the system and get rid of the code. The code is not deactivating overdrive and the car seems to be running and driving fine. What are your thoughts?

Scotty, would you recommend using this oil additive called Liqui Moly Cera Tec Friction Modifier? Some people report reduction of engine noise, wear and friction if used every 30,000 miles with the motor oils. Thanks 🙏

Hi Scotty. I want to get a new SUV. I was looking at the Toyota RAV4 or Mazda CX-30 or CX-5. Which is better in terms of comfort, ride, legroom and reliability? I wanted to get a Rav4 hybrid but I heard a lot of people are complaining about the fuel tank not filling up all the way.

Question... Hey Scotty... My mom got a used second-generation 2005 Toyota Vitz (Yaris) - 120k KM - Auto from a private party. Since she didn't know much about cars she didn't realize that the automatic transmission was already on its last. After a month the car wouldn't have the power to drive and we had to replace the transmission. However, when I first used, after some time of use I realize that there was some oil leaking. When I got the car to the mechanic he fixed it. But new problems appeared. When I was leaving the mechanic, the car was accelerating too much. Without I touching the pedal, the car could go to 50km/h by itself. I was driving the car with brakes, not with the accelerator. I tried to fix the throttle, change spark plugs, and everything and it won't fix it. Please help me.

Hello Scotty my 2001 Lexus es300 just went out on me a great vehicle. I’m now in the market for a new vehicle and was looking to get another cash car and came across a 2000 Lexus es300 automatic with 100,503 miles one owner and Lexus dealership of highland park is selling it the price would be 6500 out the door. Also it has heated front seats and very well maintained. The question would be do you think that’s a fair price and should I even considered a Lexus that old.

Hello Scotty, I have been having a really annoying issue on my 2006 Volvo s60 2.5t AWD which currently has about 117000 kms. My check engine light is on and showing the code p0089. I got the fuel filter as well as the regulator/sensor replaced but the code still comes on (and very occasionally goes off). My car starts up without any hesitation and runs totally fine even in over -30 c weather. What would you suggest I do?

Hey Scotty, I have a 4WD, 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, with 133,000 miles, automatic transmission. The transmission is starting to slip out of gear. I get to about 25 mph and seems to slip gears and just rev up. It’s then seems to catch a gear, drives, the slips again. There are no codes, what can be the problem? Thanks for your help.

Hey. I'm looking at trading a rv for a 99 Ford f150 2wd extended cab auto with 180k or a Honda Accord auto with 160k. Both will fill a need for me. I was wondering from a mechanical stand point what one I should lean towards.

Hey Scotty, Greetings from the Philippines!

i have a 2018 Hilux with the 2.8 Engine Automatic Transmission. I notice that sometimes when i slow down or when i go down a hill when I'm in "Drive" mode, the engine revs a bit but doesn't accelerate. But when i'm in "Manual" mode it doesn't happen because i can change to a lower gear before going down or slowing down.

Toyota said the transmission does this to Protect itself and because when in "Drive" mode, the Transmission sets to the 4th gear automatically. Is that true or is it a load of bull***..?

I've asked fellow Hilux owners with the same model and transmission; same issue, same response from other Toyota dealers.

(P.S.) There were no Codes when i had it scanned.

Good afternoon Scotty. I have a question for you in regards to manual cars but may I ask how do I determine the difference between going bad spark plugs vs a going bad Crankshaft Position Sensor? I still drive an 01 Honda Civic LX 5 speed at which theres been a few times where it's a idle next thing I feel/see the tachometer drops to stall point and yes it felt like it was about to cut off as well cause I felt a vibration like as if I had it in the wrong gear at stopping point and was slowly lettin my foot off the clutch pedal. My Honda has 140,127 miles

Hey, I know app about what you've said about towing a car and how to do it right, but what about flat towing behind an RV? I know the same rules apply, but I read online that it's safe to tow an automatic car, with 4wd if it has an.option to put the transfer case into neutral. Is that ok?

Scotty, I have a 2008 Subaru Forester Naturally aspirated with an automatic transmission with 132,000 miles. It’s not throwing any trouble codes. Here is my issue, I hear a rhythmic knocking under acceleration. It only happens when it’s accelerating. I have replaced the shocks as well as the springs, new rotors and pads, new tires new tire rod ends. A little disclaimer though, it was in a front end collision and when it was rebuilt, new Half shafts were put in. I have not owned it that long so I really don’t know if they are truly any good they could be cheap parts. What else should I try? There’s no Trash for anything under the car to make the noise. Should I replace the hub bearing next? Or do you think I’m looking at a bad front differential. I took a gamble and didn’t pay a whole lot for it so hopefully I didn’t buy a money pit

Hey Scotty, my dad has a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT with about 189,000 miles and it doesn’t start every once in a while. It starts no problem for 2 weeks than the next week it will not start. Hey Scotty. Been watching your videos for a few years and love ya.

I have a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick sport JLX 1.8L with over 284k miles automatic transmission. 4th cylinder has no compression and piston still moves last I checked.

Should I bother to repair it? If not, some research I've done about an engine swap says I could put a 2.3L engine from a 2005 Aerio, as apparently all the mounts (engine, exhaust, and I think transmission) are in the same position as the old 1.8L.

Yes I am aware Suzuki isn't in the USA anymore, but I want to keep the car to practice restoration skills as it would be cheaper than getting another vehicle. And also it is my first car I have ever owned since 2008 and it holds a lot of sentimental value to me.

Thank you for all that you do!

Hey Scotty, I have a 1999 Ford F150 5.3 Triton, 158,XXX miles, 4x4 Extended Cab, Auto tranny. When I lock out overdrive I'll get this horrible screeching & groaning coming from what sounds like it's rear of the transmission, if I floor it & downshifts I'll get the screech about as long as the duration of a tire chirp (but not a tire chirp). Switching the 4x4 on and off also results in noise, seems to take forever to switch. I checked the tranny fluid, looks brand new, no metal shavings or chunks. i haven't checked the transfer case or front differential fluid. Is my trans toast? I only paid $700 in Oct for it thanks to the rot so buying a reman just isn't worth it.
