Hi Scotty

Are chevrolet ventures good buy? My old client wants to sell his van for $1300 with 132k miles. It starts good. Fluids are good too. Wheel bearing on the driver side is bad.

Hi Scotty I purchased a 2017 Ford Fusion, automatic with 18000 miles. It was too good a deal to pass. I specifically went for the base model with the Mazda-derived 2.5 because I’ve heard very good things about that engine. My main concern is with the GM-Ford six speed automatic transmission. I haven’t heard much about it and I’m wondering if I should get the extended warranty on the car. Thanks!

Hi Scotty! I have a 2004 Honda Civic Lx automatic. It has thrown the map and iac codes as well as P0141. And recently the speed sensor code which we replaced not even an hour before. It revs high before shifting up. I cannot get it to go past 60-65. I’ve replaced the map sensor, transmission, cleaned the IAC, replaced speed sensor, air filter, fuel pump, as well as O2 sensors. I absolutely cannot figure what is going wrong with this car. Please help!

I will buy a one year old used one from a ford or toyota dealer. I know you like both trucks. If you were me would you get an f150 or a tundra? thanks, and if you say either then i'll just go for the best $deal.

Hi Scotty! I have a 2003 Mercedes Benz e320, 137k miles with an automatic transmission. Recently it has been over accelerating, so if i try to go anywhere over 25mph, it will shoot up to 30rpm and stay there. Went and checked under the car and the transmission fluid was leaking, fixed the leak and the transmission fluid level is now normal, but I still have the issue.

Would appreciate some help!

Hi Scotty!
I have an 8th gen 2007 Civic LX with 140,000 miles on it.

The other day my car battery died, and when I took it to O'Reily to test it, they said it was a bad batter, and I'll need a new one. I have a portable power bank that I use to jump start it, and I was thinking about jumping it every time I drove it for a while, in lieu of replacing the battery. My only concern, is when I jump start it, there's a grinding noise and I'm worried that I'll prematurely wear my engine.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Scotty,
James here from California; I know you’re not a big fan of vws, but I’m thinking about getting a mk6 Gli as my next car. I have a Jetta currently and know my way around it for the most part. Is there anything I should be wary of as far as common problems go? Also, is there a car you would recommend with similar hp, torque, weight, and has a quick transmission? Thanks

Hello Scotty love your videos. I live in Houston too so it would be cool to meet you. Anyways about my question. I am about to turn 16 and for my first car I want an Acura RSX with a standard transmission. Would this car be a reliable good daily for a teen who wants to have a fun car?

Hey I Watch your YouTube videos every day! Iv learn so much about cars, you are amazing! Keep giviner! Anyways I live in Ontario Canada I own a 2008 Honda Ridgeline 5 speed automatic, had 250000 kms. About a year ago the antifreeze got into the transmission (this is what my machanic told me) so I had it flushed out 2 or three times to get all antifreeze out, then had the tranny filled with new oil. Ever since I had it fixed it shifts hard sometimes going into 5th gear going around 95kmh. I am stumped. Please help! Thanks Scotty 😎

Hi Scotty, my son has a 97 Celica GT with the 2.2L. Car has 300k miles. The car is sending a P0505 code. We have already replaced the IAC and have sprayed the vacuum lines with starter fluid/also tried propane to see if there is a leak. No fluctuation in the idle was observed. I also put a vacuum gauge on the manifold and it is consistently pulling 16-17 lbs of vacuum. Any idea what we should check now?

I have a '99 Grand Marquis and it starts fine but when I put it in gear it kills the battery. My alternator is fine I had that checked and it's a brand new battery.

I've been trying to take the IAC valve off to clean it but the screw is stripped.
I've cleaned the throttle too.

Hello Scotty,

Was it a smart move to buy my neighbor's (W203) 2004 Mercedes C240 with the M112 V6 (Auto tranny with 175,000 miles)? It is made in Germany, heard on the forums and from others that these older Mercedes can go up to 300,000 miles if maintained well. My current car, an (XV40) 2007 Toyota Camry LE, with the 2AZ-FE (Auto tranny with 125,000 miles) needs a new powertrain to run well, according my my mechanic. The car burns oil(quart every 1000 miles), and has metal shards in the oil. Transmission is starting to slip. Both cars don't have any codes. Thank you.

Hi Scotty,

I'm in an interesting spot and I'm looking for some professional advice. I'm about to begin my first real job, meaning that I will be about to start making some real, albeit very modest, money. I am looking for a new-ish sedan that is fun to drive and that will last me a long time. The two main vehicles I'm looking at is a 2017 Acura TLX and a Subaru Impreza Sport (maybe between 2017-19). Acuras will go forever but I know that repairs can be pricey since its a luxury vehicle. This definitely seems to be the better car, but I'm wary about buying something with 25k-35k miles as compared to something that is basically new. Do you have any insight or suggestions for other vehicles in the $15,000 - $20,000 range.

Thanks, Scotty!

Scotty I have a 1998 GMC Sierra 350ci(easiest truck ever to work on), 175k miles, auto trans. When I rev the truck in neutral/park to only a few thousand RPMs and then let off, it sputters and gasps like it's starved of fuel and won't idle correctly until the computer adjusts it after a few seconds. I have personally replaced the fuel filter and just about every intake and exhaust sensor there is. No codes, truck runs perfect and accelerates no problem otherwise. Fuel pump seems to be running with no issue as well. my next guess is the fuel pressure regulator but that seems to be working fine too. Any thoughts?

Hi #savagescotty - QUESTION: You say big engines outlast small turbo engines, but what about turbo diesels?

I want a 2014+ Grand Cherokee for daily driving and towing a camper. Would you get the 5.7 Hemi, or the 3.0 Turbo Diesel? They cost about the same, and have similar power. (Hemi has more HP, diesel has more TQ and MPG)

Thanks!

Hey Scotty. I'm looking to get a 2004 Toyota corolla as my first car for $3500 CAD. It has 213,000 km (130,000 miles). I just feel like the car doesn't have enough power. Is there anything you would suggest?

Hello Scotty!

Got a 2013 Chevy impala 3.6L situation (122,275 mil) Automatic. When started working on the car the codes picked up were p0014 (pending), p0017 (pending), p0019 (pending) p0021 (pending), p0024 (pending), p0324 (pending). The car would not turn over without a little bit of kocking.

After replacing the crankshaft sensor along with the knock sensor the car now reads p0325 (current), p0011 (pending), p0325 (pending), p0325 (permanent). The car now turns over and runs with a very loud knocking sounds and rough idle. I'm counting out a vacuum leak on it.

Recent event, the owner took it to get an oil change and the mechanic did not tighten the oil filter on right and drain plug, which he then drove it for 40min leaking oil until he heard the engine acting up and got a tow.

Thank you for the help!

Hi Scotty I have watched dozens of your videos and I feel like you might be one of the last honest mechanics left. I do have an issue I need your help with. I have a 2013 Nissan Quest SV for the last few days it's been idling and shaking badly. One place told me it was an evap code but my regular mechanic said it's a misfire code and that I need to replace the coils and plugs. I just had the plugs and coils replaced last weekend and now it seems like it's getting worse. Any idea's?

Thank you

Hey, Scotty!
I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla, 103,250 miles on the clock, and an automatic transmission.

I'm not sure if I need to replace the shocks and struts or not. I just watched your video, and this one is just stumping me. The shocks seem noisier than they ought, and they do make noise when going over a bump. Given I don't hear well, I still want to classify the noise as a clunk or clatter. The boots are torn up, but the fluid doesn't seem to be leaking.
The only other odd thing about them is on both the front left and front right, there's some blueing on the shock's shaft, which I'm assuming means it got too hot or bound up a bit.

What do you think? Replace? Wait it out?

Cheers!

Hey Scotty,
What are your thoughts on the 2003 Hyundai Accent GL 5 speed manual transmission? A close-by dealership has one on sale for $2,490 + 20% estimated for fees. It has 107k miles, two owner, and the service records shows no accidents, it was installed new brakes and timing belt this January. It also states the car was well taken care of and the photos shows the car to be well clean overall. Is it worth it? If not, what would you recommend for the same price range. Thanks!

Hi Scotty, I had a question about a 2004 Lexus ES 330 with 145650 miles and an automatic transmission that I'm thinking of buying from a private party. I just took it to a mechanic who gave it an inspection and found that, while it was a very solid car, it had some things that could be concerning. The valve cover gaskets were seeping oil, and there was oil/grease on the transmission oil cooler line by the radiator. Additionally the rear sway bar bushings were bad and it was possible the struts would need to be replaced as the suspension in the front made noise going over moderate bumps. For around $4000, do you think that it would be a good deal, or does the seeping oil infer a bad future? Thank you so much for all the advice throughout the years, love the show. Kieran Vieira

I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5-2 and the problem we're having is anytime we take it out and drive for about 10-15 minutes it will drive just fine but if we drive it longer than that it dies or if we drive it a short distance stop go in the store and then come back out and then go to drive back home on the way home it will die sometimes it'll start right back up other times we have to wait an hour or two and then go back and it'll start back up wondering if you might have any suggestions were thinking maybe fuel pump or something of that sort but it's just baffling us because of the randomness of it any help will be greatly appreciated thank you

Hello Scotty,

I am looking to buy a used small city car for a low price (around $1500-2000). Hey Scotty! I just bought a Camry from an elderly couple with 55k miles for $5.5k . They claimed it was garage kept so I had to do it, it's the first car I've ever bought myself (I'm in college). The only things wrong with it is that it shakes a little bit when going very slow (like riding the brake/going up a hill going 2mph). It doesn't shake creeping on a flat surface nor does it shake when it's at a complete stop. What could it be?! Also why when I let off on the gas on the high way and then get on the gas too fast does it jerk a little bit? Like it's a small clunk feeling but it doesn't seem normal.

Hey Scotty! You are the car repair god!...I have a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited or (xl). I live in
New York City so as you may know, the roads are incredibly harsh on suspensions...Lately when I go over bumps I get a "clunky" sound from the front suspension. I dont know if its the strut mounts, control arm bushings, ball joints, or sway bar links...I will be replacing the struts, so I will begin by replacing the strut mounts to see if they are the culprit.
I've taken the wheels off and tried with my hands to see if anything was loose. Nothing moved...From your experience, what has been the issue?...I have heard the same noise on many older cars; even on my wife's 2013 Honda Pilot.
Thanks in advance Scotty.

Hey Scotty! Became a pretty big fan of your youtube channel. I'd gotten a 2020 Nissan Versa as sort of a gift but I'm worried about the longevity of the car. Hi Scotty,

Love your channel, I watch it every day! I have a 2003 Ford Escape with 187,000 miles. My husband recently put a new power steering pump on because it was leaking. Unfortunately, some of the fluid leaked on the oxygen sensor senor 2 bank 2. He cleaned the area, the pump is no longer leaking but now I've got the code again. The code is P0156, we replaced it with a Bosch 02 sensor, so we don't know what it could be. Any tips? Thanks!

Hi Scotty,

Back in December '19 I bought a 1999 Toyota MR2 with standard transmission and an NA 3S-GE like your Celica.

It's always had these episodes where it won't find idle very fast when stop at intersections, always drifting back and forth for a few hundred RPM before settling on 1,000.
Today, I was having that same problem and also needed to fill up, bad I think I went through half a tank pretty quickly today on the way to the petrol station, and when I opened the petrol cap it hissed louder than it ever had, like there was a vacuum in the tank.

It sat for 5 years before I bought it ( I got a mechanic to replace the pump and filter, and be gentle with its first startup). I think the evap lines are clogged so it can't equalise pressure.
Could this cause low fuel pressure which leads to a hunting idle?

Greetings from Stage 4 lcokdowns in Melbourne, Australia!
