Hey Scotty everytime i hear people talk about italian cars like Alfa and Fiat they say that they don’t care about reliability that its all about the character of a car , are people that stupid willing to shell out money to these cheap - behind companies for a crap car and deal with break downs for “character” , it just amuses me lol

Mr. Kilmer, looking to get a lightly used 2019 Rav4 hybrid 20k miles. How reliable are the rav4 hybrids reliable? Wathed the show and seems Toyota gas rav4s are good, so curious if hybrids are as well.

Hey Scotty, I have a 2015 Mustang EcoBoost with 35k miles and 8 speed auto. When driving it for a bit, and doing a few pulls the Exhaust smells kinda funny. Smells more like a old car from the 70s. It has a slight tune on it from factory.

Hey Scotty, I have a 2001 Ford explorer sport with the v6 4.0 SOHC at 250k. I just replaced the entire thermostat housing. The part I used was pretty cheap though. The truck also has a new radiator. After warming it up I took off, and the temp Gage went to 3/4. After adding more coolant it sent in a about 2-3 mm above half way. Before the work it would never go past halfway. Could it be a bad thermostat or sensor? The reason I replace it was the old housing started leaking 5 miles from home, I had to limp it back, but it didn't lose much coolant.

Hi Mr. Scotty!

I have a 2011 Mazda CX9 GT, FWD with the 3.6 liter V6. It got about 120K on it. These cars came with "lifetime" transmission fluid. I was told by Mazda people that if it was never changed b4, changing it now could cause problems. The only problem it has is that sometimes it jerks a little going from Park to Drive or going from Reverse to Drive too quickly...Should I try to drain and replace the transmission fluid, or just "let it go..." I love the car otherwise, has been super reliable and a great family car....more trunkspace than a Highlander with the 3 row up.

Hi Scotty!

I have a 1997 Toyota Camry 2.2 L. v4 with 87,000 miles, automatic transmission. OBDII Codes: P1300, P0505, P0340, P0450.

So I had just cleaned the fuel injectors to fix it from not being able to start. Now it will run like normal for about a mile until it's warmed up. Then it will stall but it can be easily started and keeps going but dies more frequently as you go.

It seems to run longer at about 30 mph but stumbles below 25 mph.

Please help.

Hey Scotty and everyone! I have a 2007 Lexus ES350 with 135,000 miles. I noticed that when accelerating and reaching 40-45 mph, the car begins to vibrate, the whole car. Past 40-45mph the whole car stops vibrating and is smooth. I replaced all 4 tires because they were bald and thought that would solve the problem. However between 70-75 mph, the vibrates horribly, AND the vibration between 40-45 mph is still there. I jacked the car up grabbed the wheel on both sides at 9 and 3 and 6 and 12. There is no excessive play. Someone suggested I get an alignment and rebalance all 4 tires. Also the work I've done to the car were front engine mount and the dogbone mount, i did not replace the side mounts on either side of the car. Transmission does not shift weird or slip. So I am lost at what to do now.

PS. I also replaced front brake rotors and pads, and replaced the rear pads, but not the rotors. and rotated tires

Hey Scotty! I am thinking about buying my first car within a year and I want the engine to last as long as possible. Would it be a good idea to use a head gasket sealer for preventative maintenance to fill in any small holes before the get big and blow? If so, what sealer do you recommend that won't do any damage to the engine?

Hi Scotty i have a Lexus GS450h from 2008... bought the car when it had 86k miles now its on 106k... i am changing oil in it every 5k miles and everything runs like a clock... recently been with special electrical mechanic which check the capacity and state of my hybrid batteries and they are sitting on 76% performance wise, which the guy said that its good looking at the milage of the car and age... my question is is there anything i can do for the hybrid drive to maintain it so it will last as long as possible? I also never changed oil in that E-CVT gearbox... should i change it or is too late and risky to do that, i'v heard that after some point its better not to change oil in auto gearboxes, so is there an advice you can give me on that too. Btw gearbox is going great and have no problems with it. Thank you

Hello Mr Scotty Kilmer, I'm a big fan of you sir I love your videos on u tube, so I got a cuestion and I really need help I don't know what to do, so I own a 2012 nissan rouge 80.000 miles svt transmission , I let my friend to used it to a trip from Houston to San Antonio so she call me and told me that the car won't go pass 40 Miles on hour so I thought she angage the four wheel drive so I asked her to stop in a resting area and turn off the car so she did and after 20 minutes she was in her way with out a problem and she made back to Houston with out any problem, so I never pay attention to it because I thought she had the four wheel drive, but this last weekend I drove from Houston to San Antonio and it did the same thing about mile 200 like 30 miles to get to san antonio so I stopped in the same resting area she did waiting for 30 minutes and I I guess the transmission cool down and than I could speed with a out problem, I do not know what to do i got extended warranty from a company that is not nissan related

Hi Scotty I have a 2010 Chevy equinox lt 2.4 engine it's at 143000 miles as of today and it has alot going on with it . First The car is idling very very rough when I stop the car it occasionally stalls with this the engine light came on and it showed codes p0014 and p0324 and I was told by the guy at advance Auto parts the p0014 was the domestic code i already had the intake and exhaust solenoids replaced no even a month ago so I'm wondering if you have any ideas on what this could be ? Also I'm having a problem with the oil consumption I need this car to last me until I get a chance to get a new car with these problems do you think it can make it .my transfer case is going bad so I have been told and I was in the process of trying to get it fix until the rough idling started happening I just don't know where to start and I'm afraid my car is going to die on me before I get a chance to get a new one. Thanks for reading and thank you for all you do for people like me

Hi Scotty. So this has baffled me and some buddies of mine that are mechanics. I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy SLS with 132000 miles, automatic with the 4.3L vortec. It's my winter vehicle up here in Wisconsin. Well for some reason, if the outside temperature is under 20 degrees, the thing will just crank and crank and not start. I thought it was the coolant temperature sensor and replaced it but it's still doing it. The fuel pump is good, the starter is new and so is the battery. Also, it's not tripping any codes either. It runs like a dream anytime the temperature is above 20. I just don't get it. Any ideas??? Thank you!!!

Hello scotty and friends, first time posting, long time youtube viewer.

I own a 2014 honda crv with 60,000 miles, 5 speed auto. The problem is that right AFTER I turn the key and start the car, there's a grinding noise that the car makes that lasts for about 1 second. It only does this if the car has been sitting for a while, specifically overnight in the cold. Im afraid it might be slowly damaging something.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I need your opinion! Mr. Kilmer, I own a hauling business here in Indianapoils #HippoHauling. I’m consider buying a 2001 f350 w/ 42k miles and a 6.8 V10 gas engine. I’m buying from a dealership, they want $5,200. I want to get it for $4000-4500. I’m concerned about how old the truck is. Low miles sure, but truck in motion stays in motion and a truck at rest stays at rest. I know you prefer diesel for hauling, but they cost way too much and the maintenance is endless. I live in a flat state—gas works! Thanks, Scotty!

PS. Thoughts on the ford 6.2 v. 6.8 gas engines?

Good afternoon Scotty, hope your havin a good day. So I seem to be having a door locking problem. 01 Honda Civic LX 140,334 miles I've noticed when i go to press down the door button to lock the doors and it seems to be all lock except for the driver side. I will say I do notice when I go to put it in first gear and go the driver side door locks completely. What do you think could cause it to not lock when I turn the car off then press the button?

Hello Scotty, I would like to get a Toyota rav4 one day, but the 2020 lineup only comes with the 8speed auto. 2019 has the 6 speed, and 2005 appears to be the last one available in manual transmission. Is the 2020 8speed fixed for longevity/ being more robust, or more of the same old issues as with the previous? Also being a do it yourselfer (until it comes to auto trans) how is standard maintenance on these things? Nothing stupid like 3 piece oil filters hidden under a bumper removal program, headlights that require a battery removal, wheel lugs that require a knuckle disassembly to replace a broken one? What year would be the better one to seek? (4wd, occasional snow/mud, trails and possible commuter car) Thanks, Steve

Hello Scotty and everyone reading. I have a 09 highlander battery terminals got bad and I had to replace but wire was too short so I had to buy splice kit. Well the one I bought wasn’t big enough for wire so now I am using less strands. Can anyone guide me in the right direction to get a proper splice kit that will work? Can’t find much info online. Thank you!

Hey Scotty I’m in desperate need of HELP!!!

I’ve got a ek4 1997 civic with a Honda Accord Mb6 b18c4 turbo conversion.

Mileage 102k (shell 120k)

Codes 12,14,16,18 twin blue plug obd running p28 ecu

It’s been running fine for a year until I hit a pot hole and my ecu came out of its holder sending me into like a limp mode no power and could barely keep the revs. Then after an hour of sound like I’ve got 3 cylinder Looking at everything it started and was back to normal. I had the odd misfire but all seemed well

Christmas Day came and I drove fine to my mum and dads then 2 days later it wouldn’t start change the plugs rotor arm and cap

Still no luck change the coil and reset the ecu after it was out the car overnight and it started. It sounded rough so I revved it a bit and once it hit 2500 rpm it was fine.

After a decent drive it seemed under powered and clearly was I stopped for more fuel after being out for around 3 hours and it didn’t want to start After playing with the ecu and wiring it started.

I got it home and since then it hasn’t really started I got it going the next day but it sounded horrible, I literally tapped the ecu and the car shut off. Ok So the ecu obviously was damaged in the fall So after having a look at mine I realised a capacitor was burnt out so I replaced it but still no start.

so I got a new ecu today and It burnt out as soon as I went to start the car I smelt the smoke and undone the cover to fine smoke coming out of it.

Il add I had spark before and now I haven’t but the distributor is getting power I’ve changed everything inside the distributor Changed loads of sensors checked timing checked compression changed the plugs checked the relay etc because I got code 0 at one point haven’t had it since I removed the ecu.

I’m just really confused, I was going to get a new loom after getting someone to check the electrics

Has anyone ever had anything like this? Car cranks and everything seems to work but the engine starting But the main thing that’s confused me is the fact something has burnt out 2 ecu’s and one without even starting the engine

I’m now guessing I’ve got an electrical problem but I dunno where to start.

Please help!!!

Other than this I noticed some hesitation when shifting but I attributed that to how old is the vehicle, the car has 176500 miles mostly highway miles

Hi Scotty, I'm a subscriber to your Channel on YouTube... Great videos!!! I had a question (If you have time to answer) about my 2006 GMC Envoy 4.2 inline 6. It has 177k miles and original Automatic Tranny as far as I know. It's been the most reliable car I've ever owned (Only replaced a $40 water pump years ago). I was just wondering about the Transmission, I've heard they go out around 180k miles, mine however shifts fine. Would you sell it or chance the trans lasting? (It's a heavier SUV with a tow package but I never haul). If you get the time thanks so much!!!

I'm still learning how to use this new app. I just posted something incorrect in another section. I think I got it right now. Anyway I wanted to know if you had any videos about vacuum gauges. I haven't seen any I've been binge watching a lot. I love this stuff. I thought that I heard you say that cars had more vacuum on the road versus at idle. Didn't there used to be some quick checks with vacuum gauges to find out about engine problems
