I'm looking for a decent SUV for the winter that I can use for schooling and hunting. do you have any recommendations for other types of vehicles?

thank you for your time, hope to hear back from you soon.

1996 Chevy C1500 4.3 V6 Automatic No Codes with 130,000 miles. Iv read that these engines have exhaust valve problems due to poor lubrication. What can I do to help prevent this? Any other advice with owning this truck?
Thank you!

URGENT QUERY:

Check engine light on my 2007 Toyota 4Runner V6 with 213450 miles. OBD Code reads 3 different codes: P040, P0441 and P0455.

Initially took to AutoZone to read the code for free. They suggested replacing the fuel cap. Replaced with OEM fuel cap from dealership. NO LUCK.

Took it to a local mechanic and the diagnosed and asked to replace both upstream and downstream Oxygen sensors. Quoted over 800$, So I replaced myself. NO LUCK.

Took it to another mechanic and he suggested to replace Evap Purge Valve.! Since I got three different opinions from three different people, I decided to take it to my local Toyota dealership. After 150$ diagnostic fees, they said the vehicle needs Exhaust manifold and Charcoal canister replaced. The quote they gave is 3600$.!!

I am not sure what and who I should trust at this moment. What do you suggest that I do now when 4 different mechanics gave 4 different suggestions. Please help.

Hello Scotty, I really need your help. My 2013 Chevy Equinox Lt automatic V6 with a little over 60k miles bought from CarMax and gifted to my wife and from my mother in-law. The car has its emissions light on in 2019 we took it to Chevy and got a Solenoid replaced along with a new exhaust because our old one had a crack in it ($800 job).Fast forward to today emissions light comes one again took it to Chevy and they replaced a piston ring that was causing the car to burn oil too fast (2week job). We picked up the car and one day later the light came back on so we took it back to Chevy, they said the solenoid they replaced last year went bad due to the piston ring issue so they replaced it, we picked up the car and two days later the light is back on. So far warranty has cover the piston ring which was over 2k to fix but the warranty expired so from now on we’ll have to pay. I can’t afford to keep putting money into the car and I can’t afford a car payment. I have two kids and am married we kind of need the space the car provides so we need to be able to fix the issue. Any suggestions? Thank you. Also big fan thank you for the knowledge videos.

Hey Scotty . Big fan ! Thanks for your time ! I have a question if you have time .
2004 Toyota 4Runner 4wd
98,000 miles
Highway/ city driving / trail/ camping
Possible head gasket ( very very small)
Cylinder #6
Losing very small coolant in reservoir tank , little smoke after starting and restating sometimes when hot .
No oil/ coolant contamination
Pressure coolant - lost maybe 1 psi in 5 minutes -idk if it’s the tool
Combustion test negative . ( maybe to small - did notice small bubbles only a few if I really rev the engine .
So I was thinking of using blue devil , not the pour and go . The blue devil - blue bottle - .
How do I use it if I can not take my thermostat off , since it’s attached to the housing ?????

Hi Scotty!

I have an '02 Honda CR-V, automatic w/ ~130K miles. Recently the engine has been turning off when coming to a stop with very low idles. I checked online forums and many said it's probably a dirty idle air control valve. We take the IACV off, clean it with CRC Throttle & Intake cleaner, let it dry and re-assemble everything. We made sure everything was plugged in, and all the fluids were back to their proper levels. Upon completion, we tried turning on the car and now there's a no crank no start. No OBDII codes. We had a spare starter motor so we tried replacing that and still no crank no start. Any ideas what could've caused this? Thank you for your consideration & time!

hey Scotty, i just bought a 2012 Silverado extended cab work truck with 95,000 one owner miles (was fleet vehicle and had all records of services with it) and i was wondering what your opinion of the the 5.3 and the 6 speed auto trans is, whats their reliability is . i had the trans fluid and filter changed, oil changed out also so i would have a fresh start with the new car, but i feel a slight vibration, so i had all the tires re-balanced, thought maybe it was that but i still feel it, the place where i had the trans fluid service done said that the there wasn't any more then the normal wear from what they could see for a truck with that kind of mileage and was in good shape, once in a while though when i slow down to make a turn it seems like it didn't down shift enough when you take off again. but i may just be paranoid also since the truck i replaced this one with had the trans go out out of the blue on the highway :-(

Hey scotty, im going to be getting a car soon, i like 80s cars so naturally, im looking at 80s cars, ( i really like 80s designs with pop up headlights, cassette stereos etc) i saw some cheap good looking options i liked, #1 being the 1986 Nissan 300zx, i read it was reliable and overall a good car for what i need in one, now i was planning to buy one, 1 is this a good car, if anyone would know it would most likely be you. And 2 for a car this age what should i realistically probably have to replace on it, engine parts, tranny parts, sensors etc provided the previous owner took care of it
Anyways thanks for reading this if you even did, its all good if you dont i get it

Hello Scotty! I've got a 2008 Civic Hybrid. Previous owner says he did "routine maintenance" but I'm not sure if he's changed the CVT fluid or rotated the tires at all. I'm making a 700 mile trip in a few days. Should I do these things before or after the trip? Does it even make a difference?

Hello Mr. Kilmer
I have a 98 cherokee xj 4x4, 138k miles auto.
Always wanted an xj, love the truck and wanted to thank you about your last reply indeed the main issue where the cables going to the injectors that were fried.
About 5 thousand miles got the engine rebuilt (got the jeep dirt cheap, engine was clicking and was on the budget to do it), now is about time to change the oil and noticed that they put 20w-50 instead of 10w-30 as the oil cap and user manual stated, called a mechanic and told me the always use 20w-50 (the guy who rebuilt the engine works on a llt of old jeeps) and they are 10w-30 no more... that answer did not convince me and I want to put the grade of oil stated on the manufacturers manual.
Want to ask if that could cause any issues, and if I would follow the standard procedure of oil change when changing viscosity, or should I keep using 20w-50.
Also want to ask about the steering, it acts normaly until i habe to do a sharp turn or U turn where I can hear a poping/clicking noise and have a little bit of feeling on the ateering wheel. (U-joints, front wheel bearings, tie rod ends and damper replaced when bought the jeep as part of preventive maintenance proposed by me).

Hey Scotty I get around 24mpg (according to dash reading) but this one gas station I’ve tried twice now has dropped my mpg down to the 18 range. I’ve seen a few other people say the same thing about this gas station. Is their any legal action I can take even if no actual damage was done to me vehicle? I would assume it’s because they have way too much ethanol in their gas

Hey Scotty I watch all your videos on YouTube all the time I've learned a lot from you was wondering what you think a 1995 Ford F150 5.8 L V8 engine would cost to replace or rebuild my engine which one would be cheaper how many hours do you think it would take to take it apart and put it back together I have my own mechanic not too far from where I live he's worked on about five of my vehicles the only charges $50 an hour he's been a mechanic for 30 years he's kind of like family to me and so I trust him.

Hey Scotty, Love your honest videos.
I'm looking for a really durable used truck/suv to take way out on the back trails to prospect with. I'm looking at buying used, around 2006 age. Possibly a Mercedes ml500 (father in laws car) with 199,000 miles, a Ford expedition about the same, a Toyota land cruiser or sequoia around the same age, or a 1996 jeep wrangler. What's your opinion? What's best longitivity, and most durable for the money? It will be for trails and dirt roads, but still some city use as well.

Hey Scotty! I have a 2000 F150 4.6 auto with 270k miles on it. It is very sentimental to me otherwise I would've gotten rid of it years ago and I easily have more than the truck is worth in parts. I'm trying to improve the gas mileage through cheaper engine mods. I have true dual exhaust with no converters or muffler, no rear oxygen sensors, No A/C system, Cold Air Intake with a K&N filter, Throttle Body Spacer, and an MSD Ignition system. As it sits it gets 25mpg highway. Are there other ways other than weight reduction and my own driving on how to improve the highway mileage? I've been thinking about long tube headers and a dynotune. Any thoughts that could help me? Thank you and love the channel.

Hey Scotty!

Love your videos!

I have a 1999 GMC Yukon 2 wheel drive with about 216,000 miles. I have a check engine light for a p0420 inefficient catalytic converter. I hooked up my scan tool and I can see that the bank 1 down stream O2 sensor appears to be working. I suspect that there is a small exhaust leak coming from the flange that connects the cat to the exhaust pipe. My question is can an exhaust leak before the down stream o2 sensor cause a cat inefficiency code? I have had this truck for about 6 years and this is the first time that it ever tripped that code. I am not getting a cat code on bank 2.

Thanks

Scotty... love your Youtube videos! I've got a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid with 190,000 miles and CVT transmission. I'm getting an unnerving vibration under heavy acceleration, like up a hill or freeway onramp. The axles were replaced a couple years ago and motor mounts 3-4 years ago, although the motor looks like it jumps around more than it should when switching from drive to reverse. I'm concerned it could be the CVT and don't want to sink any serious coin into this old gal. Thoughts?

Hi, Scotty .I have a 1995 toyota t100 v6 SR5 2wd, 138k miles. automatic. I have an issue that has me perplexed. It's in limp mode and wont let it pass 2.5-3k RPMS. In my own research I've changed the catalytic converter and the O2 sensors. The O2 sensors were the only code I could pull. I also read it could be a crankshaft positioning sensor.
