Possible Brake Noise - Occasional LOUD scraping
Hey Scotty, Hope you’re well! I’ve got a 2010 Mazda CX-7 (Automatic) with about 140,000 miles on it.
I’ve been chasing this sound down for a couple months now. When I’m on the expressway, and the wheels are turning at higher speeds, (about 45 and above), sometimes I hear this metal-on-metal scraping/screeching sound when I accelerate. It’s very Loud, and only lasts about 3 or 4 seconds, unless I adjust the wheel slightly to the right or left. It doesn’t happen all the time, but when it does, it’s always on acceleration. It SEEMS to be coming from the front driver’s side wheel... only thing is I’ve had the dust shields bent back, and the pads inspected. I was told everything looks fine. Still hear it. It literally sounds like something metal is coming in contact with the rotor, creating this metallic sound.
I’ve attached a picture of the rotor below. I noticed it’s scored, and a bit rusted in the center/around the outside. Thinking of replacing pads and rotors. Had the transmission inspected by a great shop I’m a regular at, and they said it’s near perfect. Since it’s coming from the wheel and it’s metal, the rotor was the first thing that came to mind.
Any insight would be helpful! Thanks! Have a good week.
