I wanted to let you know I bought one of those 'kits' from WalMart and did exactly as you said Scotty.
Cleaned off the terminals and the connectors
Used the Felt pieces provided in the package
Sprayed the Terminals and connectors (while connected)
And I've had no issue since and things still look good.

also I use Vaseline on the battery cables and battery posts and this way when you're ready to clean the battery again you just take it off wipe the stuff off and put new vaseline on it I've done it for years

clean it off good, or replace the battery terminal with a new one. But realize that battery is cheap and battery acid vapor is seeping at the terminal and rotting the cable. SO, get one of those red felt battery terminal covers at auto zone and put that under the cable to soak up vapors, then spray the terminal with battery protectant spray to prevent future corrosion
