ok here is the story i have a 5.9 2000 durango all fluids new 200000 miles we were going to get gas smoke starts coming from under the hood a minute later its coming through the vents when we looked coolant was almost empty even though it had all new fluids wed put new coolant in at the gas station on the way back probably 5 mins later smoke through the vents and hood we pulled over antifreeze was still full once we got going it died once we started it and it died 2 more times before we made it back 1 or 2 minutes apart each time the last time it died battery clicked like it was dead but started a couple minutes later this was the hardest to get started now grey smoke was coming through the hood the next day after it would crank and not idle a day after that it starts and idles and will not go into gear and you can smell the burning while its running with all the new stuff i have on it i was thinking of putting a new engine in but do you think its worth to try and fix the old one first

actually just one more question any idea what that would have to do with the engine not going into gear so when you put it in reverse the lights turn on but it is not engaged with the engine
