Auto Repair With Scotty Kilmer
Aug 17, 2017
Scotty, My girlfriend has a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The Cam sensor bank 1 went bad, so I told her I would replace B1B2 and the Crank.
She just moved in So I've never worked on her car,
But as you can see that I found the subframe on the drivers side with a big rust hole that goes through top and bottom of the beam.
Nissan sites say this is normal for that year,
Other sites say this type of thing is unrepairable and you have to have a body shop pull the front end engine, panels, etc and replace that front section.
I'm not letting her drive it , and I don't know if its even safe to drive to a dealer.
Is this part structural?
Or does it distribute the force of a crash as some have said?
Do I don't worry about it or scrap the car because its unsafe and get a new used one? Which we may not be able to afford. But I cant sell a potentially deadly car so someone. I would have to scrap it, But it runs GREAT!
Just need some good info ;0)
Thanks Scotty if you can help
