Keep a diagnostic tool in your vehicle... Here's why

hoodedstranger77

Basically an automotive shop tried to scam me out of $1100+ when all I needed was MAF sensor.

Turned the engine over and it wouldn't stay running. It was like it wasn't getting gas or something. So I assumed my fuel pump had went out. Called a tow truck. Got it towed to a shop. Left it there on a Friday. They called me up the following Monday asking me for $1100+ total claiming that all my spark plugs needed to be changed for $350+ in order to perform any sort of diagnostic test. I told them just to replace the fuel pump. They wanted $400+ for one by the way so I went and bought my own for $225 in order save money. They charged me $450+ to change the fuel pump. And here's the kicker... It didn't fix the problem. I finally got it running and got it home to where I could plug up my diagnostic tool to it. And you know what the problem was? MAF sensor!!! I unplugged it and the car ran fine. I replaced it of course but I digress. The mechanics could have plugged up a diagnostic tool to my car and saw the problem right away. What's your thoughts on this Scotty?

P.S. what do you think of the truck in the pic?
