I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla and my AC compressor belt fell off about 3 years ago, a few days ago I put a new belt on and now there is a terrible grinding sound. And I was wondering if I could send a video of the sound and get your opinion on what it is, your the best mechanic on the internet and I really hope need to fix it cause I am a highschool kid and can't roll up with my car sounding like a shoe box

Belt still runs around the pulley even when a/c so not on. The fact that it wasn't in use for that amount of time is what has the system now in need of repair.

But wouldn't only make the sound if it the AC is on, because the noise is continous, could it be the idler pulley, that would be easier to replace

IF ac compressor was not used for 3 years, odds are the ac compressor itself, or the clutch on the end of the ac compressor is all rusted up inside. You will probably need a new compressor, and possibly more internal Ac work. Take the belt off, if the noise goes away, leave it if you don't want to spend tons of money
