Hey Scotty, My mom has a 2004 Volkswagen Golf Mk4 v16 estate and for a few days I've been unable to open the boot(except for manually lifting the lever from the inside. From the factory this car has 2 ways of opening the trunk, one way is to do it with a key (Which triggers a mechanism that pulls the lever up) and with a button placed above the registration plate (Which triggers a motor, that opens the trunk. The key mechanism broke ages ago, so the only way to open it was to use the button, but it doesn't work anymore. I have testes the button with a multi meter, and it appears to be working fine. I have also tested if the engine pushing the lever is getting any voltage and no, it's not getting anything. Do you have any idea where i can look to solve this problem?

Also, do you know where to look for a servicing book of this car? I've looked through Ebay and Amazon with no results.
Regards!

Ill have a look at the cables and see what i've got.

I don't have a circuit guide for that model. But mainly you need to verify if the actuator works first, I'd supply power to it from another circuit or from the battery and then see if it works ok. Then there really isn't any easy answers on try to track down the circuit issue other than checking the fuse power source and then working your way back testing for power at each wire connection. I'd still see what you can do to see if the issue is in the wiring going into the liftgate.

I have had a look at the wires and they are in prime condition. Also all other features in this place work fine (Wiper, boot lock detector, heated window). About the broken circuit, any idea on how to do it the most efficient way? I think there might be a different way rather than stripping half of the car to look through wires.

May have to go thru a VW dealer to get a manual for it. Mainly need to trace down the circuit issue. Often it can be a broken wire where the liftgate pivots on its hinges and the wiring can be stressed there which can cause it to break.
