Hey Scotty, I have a 2011 Camry LE 2.5L, and when I get up to about 35 or 40 mph, I start to hear a noise coming from the tires, as if something is rubbing up against something else (grinding noise that sounds like rur rur rur). When I'm at 35 mph, it is not that loud, but when I go to 40 or 45, it gets really loud and intense. Any idea what it is? I thought it was a bad wheel bearing(s), but when I got my car safety inspected, I told the mechanic to take an extra careful look at the bearings, and he said its choppy tires causing the noise, not the wheel bearings. Could it still be the wheel bearings, or could it be something else like bad alignment, bad balance, needs to be rotated, etc? It got rotation done about 3,000 miles ago, so but the noise was there even just 1,000 miles after the rotation had been done. Also, 3,000 miles ago when the previous owner had gotten the rotation done, he had denied service for an alignment, so maybe that's it? Here's the video of the sound: https://streamable.com/odrqq (P.S., you can't really hear the noise that well in the beginning, but towards 0:20, you can!)
Thanks alot for all you do, I love your videos!
Hey Scotty, I am an automotive engineer and have been watching your channel for the last two years, I have learnt so much more about cars by just watching your videos. I would go on to say that you would make better decisions than some of my managers in the automotive companies.
My question is with regards to buying a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, Limited trim (leather, panoramic sunroof, tech package) with about 40,000 miles @ $13,000. What is your opinion about this car's powertrain and its reliability, how long do you think it would last if I did the regular maintenance in a timely manner ?
Thanks a lot for everything you do for this community and your followers.
Hey Scotty, so today while running around town in my 2000 Camry 2.2, I noticed that when I parked my car the oil light started flickering. I was late for an appointment so I couldn't check at the time but when I started the car and drove it again, no light until I parked again. I checked everything this time and nothing seemed to be wrong except I could smell oil, not burnt or anything just a subtle oil smell. It is in need of an oil change which I plan on doing as soon as I get home but do you have any idea what this could be?
Hi Scotty, what do you think of the 1st Generation Honda CR-V??
First, thanks so much for the videos - anybody that drives should watch them.
Just when in the hell did new cars start costing an entire year's salary? We're thinking about replacing our 2006 Odyssey w/265K miles on it (bought it new) with something newer. We commute 30 miles round-trip daily (so MPG is important), we have 2 TALL grade school/high school kids, and we need to pull a 2,500 pound popup camper a few times in the summer (Wisconsin - flat, mostly).
We're thinking a Toyota Highlander, an Acura MDX, a Lexus RX350, or an Explorer. Any preference as to model and year? Or should we just forget it and get another minivan w/a lot of miles on it...but we really don't want another minivan.
