Hey Scotty. I have a 1997 Camry. For a while the brake pedal would sink during hard brake applications. the best way I would describe it is you would step on the brake, it would work normally and then it would sink a more.
There is no fluid leaks in the system. What i did notice the last time I checked the car was the left and rear shoes were not wearing evenly. One side was almost warn all the way down. That made me think it was the master cylinder. I was planning on changing it. Also the hand brake had to be pulled all the way up. Even though I adjusted the rear brakes a few months ago.

Now this week all of a sudden there's a change. The brake pedal is now solid firm. No sinking at all. Also the hand brake is tight and stops half way. I think the brakes feel good now. But I didn't do anything. I'm puzzled. Could the the shoes be grinding into the drums making the pedal and handbrake feel firm?
What do you think?

Scotty! I recently purchased a ‘17 Toyota 4runner sr5 premium 34k miles. A few weeks into having the vehicle I opened the after market cold air intake housing And found the K&N air filter wasnt even attached to the intake hose! It was just sitting at the bottom of the housing. Is my engine ruined? I immediately changed the oil myself.

Hey Scotty, need help. Wife and I took your advice and bought a 2016 Lexus ES350 3.5L V6 a year ago with 23,000 miles on it, now it has 37,000 miles. I noticed passed 2 weeks it smokes quite a bit at start up for about 2 seconds then goes away and maybe a hint of blue in it. I recently changed the oil per factory recommendation and seemed fine and not losing any coolant. No codes or lights on dash. What could be the problem?

Scotty you were saying on your talk show on Saturday for everybody to go to the beach because we’d be safe from the virus there because of the heat which kills the virus
I was doing some reading today and Brazil is number two in the world for the virus now so maybe the beach heat and lack of virus there is a myth ??
I don’t know I’m just saying

Keep up the great job and hopefully you surpass your late 85-year-old grandfather with many more years of fixing cars

Hi Scotty,

Really enjoy your YouTube channel and the solid advice you give. The question I have is about a recent experience I had driving my mother in law's Jeep Cherokee. It had this "Gas saving" feature where the SUV would turn itself off at a stop sign around town and then it would restart "seemlessly(not)" upon hitting the accelerator pedal. It was really weird.
Do you see this as a trend in auto manufacturers? Or is it just Jeep that's trying this cockamamie idea?

I got a 1952 Ford pick up truck with a Chevy 283 motor in it
The mileage on the motor is unknown as the odometer has stopped working but the motor is not new and was rebuilt I was told when I bought it
my mechanic tells me that I should switch to Amsoil synthetic oil because it has zinc in it and because of the zinc the heads will last longer
I thought that zinc oil was only for a motor during the break in period ?
I’m using conventional 10W-30 in my 1967 283 engine
should I switch?
I only drive the vehicle about 15 times a year or 600 miles

Hi Scotty, I recently moved to Houston, TX from Fairbanks, AK.

I’ve purchased a 2006 Honda Civic Coupe from a guy (Not a dealership) through FB market page.

I did a decent check of all the things by myself based on your YouTube videos. I feel the car still has a lot of life on it (odometer reading 107,807 miles only).

I would like to check with a mechanic and fix what may be necessary on this car. The seller has given me all the inspection report and reports from past service/ repairs done. I am aware that you are a Houstonian.

Is there a way you could help me with inspection, guidance and fixes? I’d like to be your client if that is possible. Or can you suggest me a reliable place/mechanic where I can get a detailed inspection on the entire vehicle status.

Hey Scotty and friends! Sorry in advance for the long type up.
I had to buy a 2001 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7L with 80 thousand KM on it because I needed something asap for work and it was the only car in my price range in my area. I did my research and I understand this is a garbage car notably the water pump and timing chain are frequent repairs. I just need it until I can save up enough for a quality car but I guess my question is: How do I make it last for as long as possible so that this one doesint leave me stranded as well i.e what kind of preventative maintenance can I do other than changing the oil frequently?

Hi Scotty. Currently I have a 2011 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI with a DSG-transmission. In 2018 the electronic part of the EGR-valve failed, which cost a small fortune, because the valve is located right next to the firewall, under the car. This week, an injector failed in a middle of a tunnel. The car went into limp-mode, and I have to shell out yet again. I found a 2013 Toyota Auris with a 1.6 valvematic engine, 1ZR-FAE and manual transmission. The car has only 11433 miles on it, verified by the Toyota dealer. Do you know anything about the engine? With regards.

Hello Scotty, big fan of your YouTube car repair videos. I’m thinking about buying a car, most likely the new generation Honda Accord or Civic Si with Standard Transmission. I do prefer the 1.5L Accord/Si over the 2.0L Accord for better fuel economy. However, from your channel I learned about oil dilution in 1.5L GDI Turbo engines, and it worries me. I’m aware that dealerships have “software/hardware fix” (which usually doesn’t fix the issue), extended warranty, and other BS. What is your opinion about this? Are newer 2020 models still have the issue? I know this oil dilution is mostly in CRVs and Civics, but what about Accords (shares the same engine) 1.5L vs 2.0L? Are Civic Si affected or just other non-Si models? Thank you very much for your response. God bless

Hey Scotty. I saw your video about the Toyota 2AZ-FE engine. My wife's 2009 Camry has almost 140k miles with this engine. Have been doing regular 5k changes with Modil 1 0W-20 synthetic for the past 7 years loosing less than 1/2 quart between oil changes, so not a big oil burning problem at the moment. Anything I can do to prevent this from getting worse?

Hey Scotty, love your videos they’ve been entertaining as well as informative. My wifes Cadillac was recently totalled while parked. She’s interested in a smaller SUV. Some contenders we are considering are a used 2015-16 Mazda CX-5, Mercedes GLA as well as a Toyota Venza. Any thoughts concerns on these choices would be greatly appreciated. Matt

Hey Scotty. I have a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze LS manual with about 24000 miles on it. Is it true the 1.8 litre eco tech engine is more reliable over the more popular 1.4 litre found in the LT,LTZ and eco trims? (Of course if maintained properly)

Hey Scotty, I just bought a 2013 rx350 about a month ago. It's been working pretty well, but the infotainment is older, so android auto isn't availible on my car. I want to install a android infotainment system in it, but would I still have access to the Lexus software? Theres important software that controls door, climate and audio settings in the infotainment right now.

Hello Scotty!

I’m torn between Lexus Gs 350/ 400 / 450h or an Ls. I reside in Montreal, Canada where winters don’t hold any punch. I like to own my car, so used but not abuse because I keep them till the end. The last one was a 2000 Acura TL 3.2 paid 2000$ which last 4 years. Now I’m looking for bigger and my first Lexus.. You warn us about the Lexus V8 been expensive to repair but what about V6 hybrid? My other choice would be a 06 M35x or Toyota Avalon. I’m willing to spend less than 6000$ and for that price I’m also willing to buy in the US.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey Scotty, I have a 2010 Lexus RX 350 with aprrox 220,000km on it (136,701 miles) and it has been quite reliable so far – I live in Canada so the weather conditions are pretty harsh. The front bearings and control arms were replaced last year, however there is wobble in the front right wheel. The dealership is claiming that we need new inner tie rod ends and that in order to replace them, the steering rack needs to be replaced as well. Is this true?

Good Morning Scotty! I currently have a 2014 Ram 1500 Sport and was looking to maybe downsize; I know you've mentioned good things about the Lexus ES350. I found a nice one, it's a 2015 with 42,000 miles on it, the guy is asking $17,500 for it or best offer. My biggest question is I have a jet ski and I was wondering if the Lexus ES350 would be able to tow it??? With the trailer it's about 1100 pounds. I don't want to get stuck on the boat lauch. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!
