Hi Scotty,
I have a 2014 Toyota Highlander, 2WD, with 83,000 miles. I perform regular maintenance on the vehicle. The car died suddenly and after inspecting, I noticed some smoke is coming out of the crank case breather hose. The cylinder compression test showed 2 cylinders with low compression. 75psi and 85 psi. Is it worth paying to have this fixed and what could have caused this?
Thanks,
Guy

Hey Scotty
I have a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro with the 3.6L V6 LGX engine. I baby the car as a daily driver on the highway here in Jax Florida. I change the oil every 4500 miles with Mobil 1 full synthetic oil. Is this a good timeframe to help this engine last? Or 4500 miles to early?

Please advise.

Important Question - Hey Scotty, I'm a big fan! Love your Youtube Videos!

I own a 2008-Volkswagen-Jetta 2.5 SE/SEL Naturally Aspirated with 1,49,500 Miles-Automatic transmission. I need to replace all 4 Wheel Bearings as they are making a helicopter type noise once I drive past 60 Mph.

Would you recommend I purchase aftermarket ones from Ebay?? They start at $40 a pair and go up depending on brands and sellers. Is it safe to purchase such critical parts and other important parts, that affect safety and not just functionality??
Also, What overall maintenance would you recommend at this point with that much mileage on the ODO??

Ps: I have already bought an aftermarket CV Axle for under $60 !

Hoping to hear from you soon :)

Hello Scotty! I just purchased a new Ford truck and the dealership has an interesting “free, included warranty”. They said as long as I get all my manufactures recommended service done there along with any service my vehicle needs, they will warranty the drive train for life. I know getting work done at the dealership is typically more expensive. Is this a good deal?

I have a 1996 miata manual trans, 196,548 miles. It started over heating. I put in a new radiator. That fixed that. But it started idling bad. It would idle fast. I tried cleaning the throttle body. It ran better. Now when i come to stops the idle will go way down and almost stall. What should i do next? wcwus@comcast.net

Hey Scotty, I just bought a 2010 Audi A5 2.0T. I’m currently having AC problems, I added Freon until it was in the green and it was blowing cold for about 5 seconds then it got hot again. What would be my problem causing this?

Hi Scotty. My name is Wayne, I'm from Mascouche, Quebec, Canada. I have a 2006 Mustang GT that I store in winter outside, covered, with a Battery Tender to keep the battery charged. Before taking it out of storage this spring I discovered that one taillight was lit so I disconnected the battery. When I reconnected the battery and started it everything seemed fine, but a week later it would not start, even after charging the battery, not even with the charger in boost mode. It started with a battery from another vehicle and I checked for a parasitic draw and discovered it's pulling 1.4 amps. I did a scan and one of the codes was B2940 chime output circuit short. Also had codes B1318, U1900, U2011, P1000, and B2296. Any ides? Car has 76,994 kms.

hey Scotty, I have a question. I normally hose off the underside of my car after the winter to prevent corrosion as well as wash off the contaminants that get under there. do I need to coat the underside with something after washing to help with preventing anything?

Hey Scotty, looking to buy a Ford Interceptor Utility (Safety and power as reasons) with 71k miles, however I cannot see the vehicle because I don’t want to go on a plane. Would you recommend i let the local Ford dealership inspect the car to give it the OK and what else would you recommend i do (eg escrow). I am aware of the chain-driven water pump issue that requires preventative maintainence. Thanks!

Scotty, Good afternoon sir. I have 2007 Chevy Avalanche LS, 142000 miles. The other day I was driving home from work and my Service Airbag indicator came on. I checked the code and I got B0020-0D, Passenger Instrument Panel Air Bag Deployment Loop Stage 2 Short to Battery. I removed the passenger seat and checked all the connections but found nothing wrong. Any ideas on what the issue could be?

@ScottyKilmer hi I have a question for you help me me please?

Hello Mr. Kilmer

I have a 98 cherokee xj 4x4, 138k miles auto.

Always wanted an xj, love the truck and wanted to thank you about your last reply indeed the main issue where the cables going to the injectors that were fried.

About 5 thousand miles got the engine rebuilt (got the jeep dirt cheap, engine was clicking and was on the budget to do it), now is about time to change the oil and noticed that they put 20w-50 instead of 10w-30 as the oil cap and user manual stated, called a mechanic and told me the always use 20w-50 (the guy who rebuilt the engine works on a llt of old jeeps) and they are 10w-30 no more... that answer did not convince me and I want to put the grade of oil stated on the manufacturers manual.

Want to ask if that could cause any issues, and if I would follow the standard procedure of oil change when changing viscosity, or should I keep using 20w-50.

Also want to ask about the steering, it acts normaly until i habe to do a sharp turn or U turn where I can hear a poping/clicking noise and have a little bit of feeling on the ateering wheel. (U-joints, front wheel bearings, tie rod ends and damper replaced when bought the jeep as part of preventive maintenance proposed by me).

Hi Scotty, I bought my first car last year and I love it very much. It’s a 2015 Honda CRV 4WD. It has about 75,000 miles on it and recently it has started making a clicking sound when I turn it on or slow down to stop. I have no clue where to start looking and my dad isn’t the greatest to fixing cars. I’ll appreciate your help!

I also have a p0430 code and I have two pen sized holes in both rear cats could this be throwing off the 02 censor ? also when ac is on the car is reving up and down? Hey Scotty big fan. Have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra changing the front brake pads soon I’m wondering should I change the rotors too or just the pads. Manufacturers say don’t change the rotors unless there worn down or warped thanks.

Congrats on the Billionth view! How awesome is that? Now the question. My 2005 F350 ( diesel, six speed, single tire) has a noise coming from the rear end. I have sort of eliminated internal components like ring/pinion ware (the noise doesn't occur at the right times or have sort of howl that the ring and pinion typically make, nor does it have that tell tail werring sound of a bad bearing). I have had the wheels off and looked around for chaffing or scraped clean metal that would show the kind of rubbing that would make the kind of noise I'm looking for. I also replaced the wheel bearings. Clearly Im missing something or more likely looked right at it and didn't know it was the problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hey Scotty. I have a 1997 Camry. For a while the brake pedal would sink during hard brake applications. the best way I would describe it is you would step on the brake, it would work normally and then it would sink a more.
There is no fluid leaks in the system. What i did notice the last time I checked the car was the left and rear shoes were not wearing evenly. One side was almost warn all the way down. That made me think it was the master cylinder. I was planning on changing it. Also the hand brake had to be pulled all the way up. Even though I adjusted the rear brakes a few months ago.

Now this week all of a sudden there's a change. The brake pedal is now solid firm. No sinking at all. Also the hand brake is tight and stops half way. I think the brakes feel good now. But I didn't do anything. I'm puzzled. Could the the shoes be grinding into the drums making the pedal and handbrake feel firm?
What do you think?

Scotty! I recently purchased a ‘17 Toyota 4runner sr5 premium 34k miles. A few weeks into having the vehicle I opened the after market cold air intake housing And found the K&N air filter wasnt even attached to the intake hose! It was just sitting at the bottom of the housing. Is my engine ruined? I immediately changed the oil myself.

Hey Scotty, need help. Wife and I took your advice and bought a 2016 Lexus ES350 3.5L V6 a year ago with 23,000 miles on it, now it has 37,000 miles. I noticed passed 2 weeks it smokes quite a bit at start up for about 2 seconds then goes away and maybe a hint of blue in it. I recently changed the oil per factory recommendation and seemed fine and not losing any coolant. No codes or lights on dash. What could be the problem?

Scotty you were saying on your talk show on Saturday for everybody to go to the beach because we’d be safe from the virus there because of the heat which kills the virus
I was doing some reading today and Brazil is number two in the world for the virus now so maybe the beach heat and lack of virus there is a myth ??
I don’t know I’m just saying

Keep up the great job and hopefully you surpass your late 85-year-old grandfather with many more years of fixing cars

Hi Scotty,

Really enjoy your YouTube channel and the solid advice you give. The question I have is about a recent experience I had driving my mother in law's Jeep Cherokee. It had this "Gas saving" feature where the SUV would turn itself off at a stop sign around town and then it would restart "seemlessly(not)" upon hitting the accelerator pedal. It was really weird.
Do you see this as a trend in auto manufacturers? Or is it just Jeep that's trying this cockamamie idea?

I got a 1952 Ford pick up truck with a Chevy 283 motor in it
The mileage on the motor is unknown as the odometer has stopped working but the motor is not new and was rebuilt I was told when I bought it
my mechanic tells me that I should switch to Amsoil synthetic oil because it has zinc in it and because of the zinc the heads will last longer
I thought that zinc oil was only for a motor during the break in period ?
I’m using conventional 10W-30 in my 1967 283 engine
should I switch?
I only drive the vehicle about 15 times a year or 600 miles

Hi Scotty, I recently moved to Houston, TX from Fairbanks, AK.

I’ve purchased a 2006 Honda Civic Coupe from a guy (Not a dealership) through FB market page.

I did a decent check of all the things by myself based on your YouTube videos. I feel the car still has a lot of life on it (odometer reading 107,807 miles only).

I would like to check with a mechanic and fix what may be necessary on this car. The seller has given me all the inspection report and reports from past service/ repairs done. I am aware that you are a Houstonian.

Is there a way you could help me with inspection, guidance and fixes? I’d like to be your client if that is possible. Or can you suggest me a reliable place/mechanic where I can get a detailed inspection on the entire vehicle status.

Hey Scotty and friends! Sorry in advance for the long type up.
I had to buy a 2001 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7L with 80 thousand KM on it because I needed something asap for work and it was the only car in my price range in my area. I did my research and I understand this is a garbage car notably the water pump and timing chain are frequent repairs. I just need it until I can save up enough for a quality car but I guess my question is: How do I make it last for as long as possible so that this one doesint leave me stranded as well i.e what kind of preventative maintenance can I do other than changing the oil frequently?

Hi Scotty. Currently I have a 2011 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI with a DSG-transmission. In 2018 the electronic part of the EGR-valve failed, which cost a small fortune, because the valve is located right next to the firewall, under the car. This week, an injector failed in a middle of a tunnel. The car went into limp-mode, and I have to shell out yet again. I found a 2013 Toyota Auris with a 1.6 valvematic engine, 1ZR-FAE and manual transmission. The car has only 11433 miles on it, verified by the Toyota dealer. Do you know anything about the engine? With regards.
