Hey Scotty! What are your thoughts on new Mazda products? Just read where all of their vehicles except the MX5 Miata made the IIHS top safety picks. Would you recommend buying a Mazda versus other Japanese brands?

Hey Scotty, I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 4x4 Off Road with a 3.0L V6, automatic transmission and 253,000 miles. I bought it as a beater to drive to work and around town, saving my 2017 Mustang. I had the transmission rebuilt 1200 mi ago. When I drive down the highway around 55 mph and need to coast, the RPMs will stay around 2100 with no throttle. When I push on the gas again to maintain speed, I've noticed the RPMs go up close to 2500 and hang there for a few seconds before dropping down to 2100 again, without moving my foot. Is this normal, or is the transmission slipping in overdrive? It doesn't do this at lower speeds, or in any other gear. It feels like my transmission goes into O/D around 45 mph, and it will do this revving only at higher speeds. Thanks!

Hi Scotty. 2003 Escape 3.0 2WD w/140k. The main upper vacuum hose on the canister purge valve sucks flat when the truck is running, but the engine runs perfect! If I disconnect it, the engine dies. The valve is getting 12v, and all of the OBD evap codes went away after changing the rear vent valve solenoid (which also had a broken wire.) I understand that the purge valve may be stuck closed, but why would it run good with the hose connected, and die when it's disconnected? (I'm afraid if I install a new one, the engine will die whenever it's in the open position.)

Hey Mr. Scotty I’m looking to buy a 2017 Ford Escape have any history on them will it last any common or big problems with them? I’m looking to buy one with 50k miles or less. My budget is $14,000. Is there any reliable suv you recommend me from 2013 - 2017 wanting a 4 or 6 cylinder trying to stay away from a 8 since it will be driven most of the time in the city.

Hey Scotty I'm looking for a used cummins and I've ran across a 2014 Ram 5500 with 170K miles on it. No rust underneath. It's been deleted and had a tuner in it prior to being traded in. Any advice?

Hi Scotty, I've learned a LOT from watching your videos, I'm a rural mail carrier, and I'm in the market for another backup vehicle. I'm looking at possibly a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe with a V6 engine and possibly a 2007 4Runner. The only concern I have with the 4Runner is it having a timing belt vs the Hyundai having a chain. Of course, the Hyundai is a LOT cheaper too, what vehicle would you recommend? These are just 2 possibilities, I'm pretty open, I definitely need something with a good size cargo space for packages and need 4wd or AWD for some of the roads I go on. Thanks!

Hey Scotty. I'm thinking of buying a 2015 used Lexus Is350 F sport Awd with 100k miles in it. The dealer is asking for $20k. The car seems to be running perfectly fine with no noise. I've tested it on the highway once and local twice. Its the best car I've driven yet. The only thing is theres alot of curb rash on the wheels and on the right side there seems to be a dent that was popped back. KBB says the car is worth between 15k and 18k. Should I buy it? And for how much? College student in upstate NY

Hi Scotty huge fan from another Country
I just bought a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage with little over 172k miles.
In my country is pretty common to put water on the radiator instead of coolant.
Is it dangerous to switch back to coolant after many year of using water in that car and in a 1989 Mitsubishi Colt?

Scotty ! May God be with you.
I have an Altima coupe 2009. It does have the check engine light, I scanned it and it showed the code p0300 telling me that it has a possible fault on a cylinder, faulty maf sensor(I cleaned it and scanned it again it showed the same code again one week after) yesterday when I was driving it, it felt rough and shaky and the check engine light blinked twice. Let’s not forget the idling sucks. Please help this young man to resolve this issue, I have the feeling that my car is an endless money pit

Hi Scotty, thanks for warning us that generators for old hybrid Lexus cars could cost up to $6000 to replace. Because of this I dare not purchase a secondhand 2007 Lexus RX RX400h hybrid 4x4. How many km is the generator designed to last for this Lexus hybrid SUV? Is this SUV worth buying? In another video, you said that Lexus RX350 are the best SUV. Scotty, YOU ARE CONTRADICTING YOURSELF. Please clarify

Hello Scotty, love your videos on YouTube. I drive a 2016 Hyundai Elantra with 59K miles, I’m wondering if I’m too late on having my transmission fluid changed and it still shift just fine. What do you suggest I do?

Hi Scotty, I have an 08 Hyundai Elantra that blows heat through the top vents, but not the bottom or defroster. When I try to change the setting, it just keeps blowing out the top. I’m assuming the control panel is bad. I just wanted to run it by you before I replaced it. Are there any other reasons that can cause this?

Scotty, I own a 2002 w210 E320 Mercedes,Do you happen to know how many quarts of steering fluid goes in the entire system overall ? (it needs to be drained as I am going to replace the steering rack and I will obviously need to refill)

The other thing is I use Mobil 1 for my oil, it was leaking for about 2 weeks on my serpentine belt (The belt was installed brand new last year and drove 3500 miles) Do I need to replace it or can I just clean it with Palmolive and save money without risking using a possibly damaged serpentine belt?

Hi Scotty, I bought a used Lincoln 2012 with around 76000 mileage from a dealer. It has a problem that whenever it accelerates, especially in 10 mph and 20 mph, I can feel two slight jerks which is like gear shifting in manual driving but actually it’s on automatic mode. I’m really worried that something wrong happens with my car, maybe the transmission. Could you help me figure out it? Thank you a lot.

Scotty - I have had my 98 civic 5-speed daily driver since I bought used in 2000. Coming up on 160k miles - still love it. Want to keep it going long enough to teach my boys how to drive stick in a few years, but lately it suffers from a sudden split second loss of power (and sometimes I hear a clicking sound) but then it drives normally again. My local mechanics can't seem to figure it out. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

Hello Scotty. I have a 2003 Lexus Rx300 AWD with 125k miles Last night after leaving work noticed a clunk while shifting in reverse then when i shifted to drive it started jerking back and forth while stepping on the accelerator. I was able to pull back into the lot where the car finally would not go in reverse. Sounds like me tranny went out. Someone suggested it could be a module but I am assuming the worst. If its the transmission is it worth replacing or just junking the whole car ? I just replaced the timing belt and water pump last year and last month put in all new brakes and battery.

Hello Scotty, i've been enjoying your videos since i stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago. You're posting multiple videos a day, which is insane, i can't keep up ) You are doing an amazing work, thank you for your contribution to our society. For the question, id' like to hear about your thoughts about suspension, since i live in Europe, Estonia (If you don't know where or what that is, don't be ashamed, most of the world has no idea either). We have snowy winters, and at this time, salt and sand are sprayed on the road to help vehicles going around the city. That's good and all but it also damages the suspension of a car with time. Also some winters drop the temperature to -20, -30 Celsius. So my question is, which brands/models would you recommend for this situation, also how do Toyotas and Hondas hold up in this situation?

I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 L with 240k miles. For years the car will not turn on at certain times. I have put a new radiator, it was leaking, and a new sensor 2 times now. I have never done anything to the transmission. It sounds like the starter? Have you any experience with this issue and advice of what to do next?

Hi Scotty, I know from watching your videos that you have a dislike for newer Nissan cars. Do you have any comment on the escape of former Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn from the Japanese authorities recently? He apparently smuggled himself out of Japan. I think this Mr. Ghost, I mean Ghosn, might be the reason Nissan turned into a maker of "rolling pieces of garbage" and the Japanese know it. Thanks for your valuable information. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/foreign/2019/12/31/internet-buzzing-speculation-carlos-ghosn-escape/40921443/

Scotty, the newer Honda AWD vehicles...(like my 17 Ridgeline and my brand new 19 Passport) they recommend a rear diff fluid change every 15k miles. That seems a bit too often compared to others I've heard of. Is that Honda trying to get more $ or do you think that perhaps they SHOULD have the fluid changed that often? Thanks so much!

Hey Scotty, my mother-in-law has a 2002 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 L V6 I am in the process of trying to fix it for her it keeps coming up with the code P 1131 bank one lean and I have replaced the O2 sensor on bank one and have also replaced the intake manifold because I know the plastic manifold can crack and leak. It is also consuming coolant about a gallon a week which I am assuming the reason for the lean code so I did a head gasket test and the test came out negative...?? I do notice an abnormal amount of water coming out the exhaust so I’m pretty sure the coolant is getting in a combustion chamber. Could it still be the head gasket??? There is also no coolant leaking externally. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Scotty, I have an 04 ford crown victoria 135k (former police car). Owned if for a year now and over the last 6 months it seems like there is a shutter when it shifts into overdrive at highway speed or roadway speeds. Feels like it's coming from the rear although I had a mechanic tell me it was the motor. There is also a low pitched mechanical whining sound in first gear only. Previous owner had it flushed at a valvoline also I might add. Do you think it's the transmission or the torque converter/ differential? Everything else on the vehicle runs like a clock, please let me know what you think. -thanks for everything you do!

Hi Scotty, I live in Houston, have a 2003 PT Cruiser (I know, I know...) with 118,000 miles on it, automatic, non turbo, base, and have problems with random stalling while driving, random very rough idle at cold start up and, dashboard icons going on while the chime goes off and the overhead light goes on when the car is bumped, turns, etc. I cannot put gas in it without pulling the gas nozzle out part way to allow vapors to escape or the gas pump turns off right away. I also sometimes have a rough start after filling the tank 3/4 to completely full. The evap system sounds like but the mechanics found my problem incredulous.

My biggest concern is the rough idle and stalling. I have had several mechanics try to figure it out but with no codes they couldn’t find the answer.

Is it possible to make an appointment with you to scan it and try and get an idea? I have had the fuel pressure checked and it is 56 but not tested under a load or with fuel trim data. Or, can you recommend someone who might be able to trouble shoot the issues?

Thanks,

Susan
