Hi Scotty!! I really need your help! I apologize for the lengthy post! I have a 2002 Volvo S80 that has about 200K miles on it. It is the non-turbo base 2.9 trim. When I bought the car, it had a bad misfire and there was a severe problem with the PCV system. Their is an oil trap box that holds several components of the PCV system. It was leaking lots of oil and a previous owner had attempted to “seal” in the oil by spraying the surrounding edges in epoxy. Since this is a rather intricate system, I took it to my local Volvo dealer where they replaced many of the parts and the engine performance was greatly improved and all the parts and labor came with a lifetime warranty, but the misfire had gotten worse. I went over to my local NAPA auto parts store and got spark plugs that were better than the originals, a new Mann fuel filter, and ordered new NAPA-brand coil packs. The gentleman said to replace the spark plugs first because the coil packs may be just fine and I also changed the fuel filter. It seemed that the car still had its original spark plugs. Replacing the spark plugs and fuel filter helped immensely, but it is still misfiring. When I went to put in the coil packs, I noticed that many of the spark plugs seemed loose. I tightened them back up and installed the new coil packs. Again, the engine improved. I went back to NAPA and they recommend I put in a can of LiquiMoly because they believe the spark knock could be due to a carbon buildup. Side note: at the Volvo dealer, they taught me that there is a misfire if the check engine light is blinking and not misfiring if the light is staying on. Before changing all the things mentioned above, the light was one and off blinking all the time. After putting in the LiquiMoly, it now only misfires, at times, when the car is only idling. It feels fine all other times. Also, the instrument cluster is out on the car, so I am not able to see any messages or lights other than the check engine light. Please help me get rid of this spark knock!
