Hi Scotty, I made a mistake putting a wire on top on my alternator

Hi Scotty, I made a mistake putting steel on top of the positive post my alternator in my Toyota Camry 1998 it has 103,026 miles. sparks flew off of the nut on the positive side of the alternator and the wire that I thought went on the alternator looks burned and the top nut of the alternator looks a bit black On the side.
the car still can turn on I haven’t started the engine
Is ok just to replace the 10mm nut on the alternator since I haven’t started my car?
I plan to unplug the wire I mistakenly put on
I can send pictures
