Hi scotty! I'm looking for a good, reliable car thats around 5k for my first car. What are your thoughts on a Mazda Miata? Are they easy to repair or worth buying? Thanks!

Thanks for the info and suggestions, much appreciated! I definitely want a rwd (preferably coupe) manual though. I'll look into the lexus cars as well, never really considered them but they seem to be pretty decent options.

Another suggestion I would recommend for a good reliable cars for 5k or maybe under is a Lexus IS300 (4-door sedan) or Lexus SC300 (2-door coupe) they both have a 3.0 Naturally Aspirated Inline-6 engine aka 2JZ-GE from the base model Supra, basically it's not the twin turbo engine. You can't go wrong with either cars, not only they're good and reliable machines, but they're also fun cars to drive. Good choice for a Toyota Supra fan.

But other than that, they're can be easy to work on.

I would go for a manual transmission option just to be sure the Miata last a long time. Scotty has mentioned before that automatic transmission on Mazdas are weak.

Mazda Miata is an affordable, lightweight sports car. There's plenty of parts so maintaince are cheap because it's a common car. So I would say go for it. Are specifically looking for sports car as in a coupe or a rwd sports sedan, too?
