Hi Scotty, hope you are doing well. I have a 2010 Mazda CX-7 with the Takata passenger airbag inflator recall. I had the first recall completed NHTSA Campaign No. 16V-356 (Safety Recall 9516E) which replaced the original Takata air bag inflator with a "like for like" air bag inflator (Part # EGY1-57-K80) on November 2016. Mazda then subsequently issued a new (Safety Recall 1317F) once a new permanent replacement part was created (Part# EGZ1-57-K80). Basically, I would like know what I should do to get the final permanent air bag inflator installed in my CX-7. There is a document dated June 29th, 2017 that states "The repaired vehicles under 16V356 will be moved to upcoming DIR#5, in order to replace the airbag inflator with permanent remedy parts." I have not received any notification from Mazda and I do not have any open recalls. Mazda states DIR#5 "Defect Information Report Date" as December 31, 2019. This DIR#5 states that "All vehicles receiving like-for-like replacement inflators", it does not state permanent replacements will be completed by that date as stated in the notice issued on June 27th, 2017. Should I just give it time or contact Mazda to permanently repair my passenger side air bag inflator with the new part? I plan to keep this car for a very long time and want to know that my passengers will be as safe as possible. Thank you for your time.
