Hi Scotty - Draft letter to Firestone. Any guess about why my engine is now using (not leaking) oil?
This notification is in regard to my 2006 F150 with 5.4l engine, auto trans., 2WD, and about 160,000 miles at the time the issue began. Note that this truck has been very well maintained, including the scheduled oil changes. The oil level has always very near the full mark at the time of oil changes, and has never leaked a single drop of oil. I had oil changed at Firestone in Pekin, IL and took the store recommendation to use a synthetic blend. After about 3,000 miles, I noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. I checked the oil level and found it to be off the stick! Understanding this condition is very damaging to an engine, I had a friend drive me to get oil, and I filled the oil back to the full level with synthetic blend. I immediately drove to a shop and had the oil and filter changed, ensuring that they used my usual Castrol brand of oil. I contacted the Pekin store and explained the situation. The store recommended we “wait and see” what happens to the oil consumption over a period of time. In any event, I was assured by the store that if the issue persists, Firestone will resolve the issue. OK – it’s been several weeks and my engine is still using oil. (still no leak) The engine is using 1 quart of oil for approximately every 1,000 miles. Please advise me of your process for inspection and repair, and the timeframe you require to restore the condition of my engine.

Thanks Brother. I'll tell them to get right on it! :) On a serious note do you have any guesses what may have happened? I was thinking they got it wrong and used full synthetic oil. Thoughts? Thanks for your time.

hey, they said they'd make it right, make them put another engine in. Jokers there would not rebuild anything correctly from my experience
