hi Scotty - 2013 Subaru WRX Question
hi Scotty. Question, asking for some food for thought from you. I am original owner of a 2013 WRX with 90k miles. I've changed oil just about every 4,500 miles on the car. I love the car quite a bit and bought it intending to keep it for a long time, but at the end of this year my extended powertrain warranty on the engine (class action settlement) will be expiring. Additionally, the car has a timing belt which i will want to replace in the coming months. Timing belt + water cooler has been quoted to me at $1,000, which I think is fair.
Repair for the standard rod bearing repair is in the neighborhood of $4,500. a bit frustrating because I bought the car intending to have it for 200k miles; that is how this manufacturer markets themselves. Oh well, anyways.
Trying to decide what to do with my situation; I want to keep the car, but I am weary of a sudden massive repair bill; but I don't know what I could find which is comparable (fun to drive, handles well, manual transmission, baby hauler) which would get me more reliability. Maybe I just roll the dice and bank on following the maintenance schedule and driving like an adult and hope for the best, but what do you think? I'm in Houston also sir, wouldn't mind coming by the shop. Thanks very much for your content.
