Hi Scotty. 2003 Subaru Outback base model. Stalling at slow speeds and at a stop. I hear a relay click under driver side of dash, then engine sputters. Sometimes stalls. if it manages to stay alive, after the second relay click/engine shutter cycle, it smooths out and stays running. I replaced plugs, wires, cleaned the IACV. Sounds like the fuel relay is shorting and starving the engine. 200K miles. Should I keep the car or drive it to the junkyard. I don't have money to buy another car so if we can save her for another year, i'd appreciate it.

Thank you all. It's not a blown head gasket. Had that all replaced at 140K. No antifreeze on plugs or white smoke. I will change the fuel pump and filter. I will post if it fixes it.

My Bro In Law had two that blew head gaskets. Why he still buys them is beyond me. Last one that blew started out with a bad idle then progressed to stalling. I pulled a plug and it was full of antifreeze. White smoke too. Junkyard! I would never own one after seeing his blow gaskets twice. Your issue sounds fuel related. Fingers crossed that it is. His gaskets went about 125K on both. Not good IMO. His new one has a rattle on the exhaust shield that Subaru cannot fix for some reason. I'd stay away. He traded it in for a Civic last month.

yes, change fuel filter and pressure test fuel pump to see if pump is worn out
