Hi,

I live in North and I have searched a lot BOTH private owners and dealers and at the moment I have two choices:

  1. 2005 Toyota Matrix XR (83000 miles) for $5300 plus $399 dealer fee, so basically cost of buying the car will be $5699 excluding the title, registration, inspection and sales tax that would I have to pay separately. By law, it comes with 30 days or 1000 miles power train warranty.

  2. 2009 Toyota Matrix Base (72000 miles) for $5849 plus $695 dealer fee, so basically cost of buying the car will be $6544 excluding the title, registration, inspection and sales tax that would I have to pay separately. By law, it comes with 60 days or 3000 miles power train warranty.

I am inclining towards the first choice not only because it’s cheaper but also because as I saw on www.carcomplaints.com that 2009 matrix models have excessive oil consumption issue.

I can send you the car listings privately if you want to see.

Before buying, I’ll be checking it myself and also from a mechanic. So based on all of the above, do you think it makes sense that i go ahead with the 1st choice or just keep looking?

Will look forward to hear back.

Thanks.

Thanks @ScottyKilmer @ScottyKilmer.

I’ll go with 2005 Toyota matrix as discussed. Quick question: Would it be safe to change the transmission fluid on this 15 years old car?
