Hey Scotty, What's up with the BMW N20 engine?

I bought a new BMW X3, model year 2013, in April 2012. It gave me 30 thousand trouble free miles. About a year ago a gave it to my son. I've read about a high failure rate on the N20 engines built between about 2011 & 2015. Seems like the plastic, (yea I know, I've watched your videos), timing chain guide breaks leading to a catastrophic engine failure and a HUGE repair bill.

There's about 39,000 miles on it now. Should I have the guide replaced before it can fail, do nothing and take my chances it won't grenade my engine or sell it now.

Sitting on a ticking time bomb. Ditching it depends on how long you can play the Game of Chicken before you veer off. I'd sell it now while it still runs & get into a V-6 Lexus. Sweat less. Smile more.
