Hey Scotty,
I have a 94 Corolla 1.8 DX automatic transmission with 157800 miles on the clock. The speedometer hasn't worked for years but the odometer does(bad capacitors). I don't think that would be related to transmission but just being through.
At highway speeds 45-75 ish the transmission seem to disengage and the engine revs high. It's not some slight slippage it's much more violent than a slip. I thought I knocked the shift into neutral because that's exactly how it sounded and felt. Letting off the throttle it re-engaged in to gear but it kept happening until I slowed down to 45mph or less. I wasn't pushing the car hard infact I was hold it at a steady speed. The OD light flashes as this occurs. The car shifts fine driving around town. The fluid level is good. The fluid is clean and don't smell burnt. Could it have a bad solenoid and if so how can you tell which one? Is it a heat problem? Filter? I can't afford to guess myself
but definitely can't afford a transmission shop. Thanks in advance for you help. The car has sentimental value and I'd hate to junk the car over something easy to fix.
Scotty, I absolutely love your informative and light hearted videos on YouTube.
Sincerely,
Carl

May be simple fix, but I am guessing overdrive is slipping , lock up converter, try some Lucas trans fix.....drive it gently 200 miles see if it changes. I.d. flashes usually internal selenoid.
