Hey Scotty. I accidentally took off a power steering return line hose on my sisters 02 Acura MDX. I put it back on but when I turned the car on I heard the power steering pump whining for a bit. At the time I didn't know what it was. After it Idled for a little longer I heard a loud pop. It turned out to be one of the power steering return lines. I put the return hose back on and tightened the clamp really tight. I then refilled the power steering fluid, did the lock to lock thing and started it up. A different end of the power steering return line hose came off. I then tightened that one really tight and started it up. But it ended up cracking the hose and power steering fluid was all over the place again. I replaced the hose and clamps but it keeps popping off. I don't know why this is happening. The return line shouldn't have so much pressure that it pops off, I think. I'm thinking its the pump but some are telling me its the rack and pinion which i'm hoping isn't the case. Do you know what's wrong?
Okay thank you
return line should not have too much pressure. Either pump is shot, or rack is shot sending too much pressure back into the low pressure lines
