Hello Scotty,
My relative owns a 2010 Mazda 5, about 70,000 + miles on it, a lot of oil from the motor keeps disappearing, and it's not leaking anywhere, previously changed with standard 5w20 oil and she switched to 5w20 synthetic oil now, with synthetic oil a lot more oil dissapeares then with standard oil, she originally purchased the van with 65,000 miles on it. Is there a way to tell if it's the piston rings worn out or if it's a pcv valve? In this car it's very vomplicated to replace pcv valve and she doesn't want to waiste money if it's not the pcv valve she's tight on a budget. I removed one of the spark plugs is there a way to tell if it's burning oil? Please see pictures, there is some grime on the tip of the spark plug could it be because the spark plug is old? And is there a way to tell if it's burning oil by sending the spark plug and then after a couple thousand miles to check if has grime then it's burning oil?

Please help

It is burning oil do a wet and dry compression test of the engine to find out wh It will show if it's piston rings or valve seals
