Hello Scotty, my friend has a 2006 Lexus IS 350 with 127k miles the car was running great. But he was in a stop light and the car turn off he said the negative terminal was lose when he tried to jump start the car. However the car did not turn on he bought a new battery but it did not fix the problem. It just makes a click when you try to turn on the car. We towed it to a mechanic and he said the engine will not turn by hand so he said engine was locked. I still cant believe how a Toyota engine got locked up like that. So we towed it to another mechanic and he did not try to find if there was an electrical problem or if it was the starter he also did the same and tried to turn the motor by hand and wont not turn and told us we need a new engine. Both mechanics did not took out the spark plugs to turn the engine they just try to turn the engine manually with the spark plugs still inside the engine and it wont turn. My question is do you think the engine is seized or should he take it to lexus or another mechanic for another opinion because he does not want to spend so much money on putting in a new engine and having the same problem. Thanks for reading this scotty I hope you can tell me what he should do.
what if it turns manually by hand with the spark plugs out of the engine what would that mean ?
thanks for the reply Scotty so if it does not turn by hand its locked up for sure even if the spark plugs where not taken out. Also how much should a mechanic charge to take out the old engine and putting on the new engine?
engine lock up if not taken care of. It's seized, try to find a used engine, fixing that one is a fortune and most guys can't do it right
