2018 Mazda 3 Touring Hatchback scraping noise from wheel areas
Hello Scotty--I bought a new 2018 Mazda 3 Touring hatchback, 6 sp manual, in early July 2018--my first Mazda. As of 8/18/18, 133 miles on the odometer. I rarely use a/c. Instead drive with windows down. I've noticed a rhythmic scraping sound coming from what seems to be wheel areas on car's passenger side whenever I'm driving slow and near enough to buildings or vegetation to reflect the noise back. Took car to a Mazda dealership 3 weeks ago. Service manager said scraping sound is normal. He drove 2 other new 2018 Mazda 3's, 6 sp manuals like mine, with me sitting in passenger seat, windows down, to demo. I heard the same scraping noise coming from them, too, as he drove slowly near the side of a long building. He didn't bother to check my car other than test drive it with me in the passenger seat. I don't buy this "normal" thing. Backing plates rubbing against rotors? NEVER heard this scraping noise in other vehicle makes I've owned. The noise is extremely annoying. Luckily I don't hear it when I'm driving on the open highway at higher speeds. I don't see driving with my windows up all the time as a long term solution. What say you? Thanks for any feedback.
