Hello Mr. Kilmer, I have a 1985 Nissan 720 pickup with the Z-24 engine. It runs and idols fine. I can even put it in gear and drive it for about three minutes, then it shuts off. I can put it in park or neutral start it back and it again runs fine until I put in gear and it immediately shuts off. No hesitation just turns off. It appears to be when it reaches a certain temperature. If I let it set off for about 10 minutes I can put it gear after start up and when it hits that temp it shuts off again. Any ideas on what causes this?

122,000 original miles. It has a carburetor.

if it has a carburetor, replace or rebuild it. If fuel injected, odds are the injectors are flooding out the engine, or the distributor is heating up and shorting out. If it has no spark when it dies, replace the distributor
