GMT400.. what to look out for?

What are some common issues you see with '88-'00 Chevy/GM trucks?

Hey Scotty,

I own a 1997 Chevrolet C 1500 (Silverado) with 169,000 miles.

My question is do you work on a lot of trucks like mine? And if so, what are some common issues you find with them? Any tips for preventative maintenance aside from the manufacturer's maintenance schedule? I hear these trucks are generally reliable.

Thanks!

William

change the engine oil every 5 thousand miles, don't overheat the engine and try to baby the transmission as it's the weakest link

not on all of them transmission usually goes out at 200,000k miles, climate control goes at 215k miles, make sure the bolts are tight on the intake manifold gaskets, over time the bolts back out and could make you pay to get new gaskets. this happens at 235k miles. 350s will last forever if maintained the right way. 90's chevy trucks are the last model year Chevy trucks without electrical issues. worth the buy, I have a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe with 220k miles on it and a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado with 250k miles on it.
