Change oil from regular to synthetic on high mileage car

rf55

Scotty, I have a 2007 Toyota Rav4 V6 with 218,000km and The previous owner put normal oil as he changed it as recommended. Was thinking of going synthetic to keep engine last another 200 or 300,000 km. I red that if you change the oil and the previous owner lied and barely changed the oil you may find issues as the synthetic oil is cleaning the engine and runs smoother (ie, headgasket leak can be revealed). Is that BS or true? What are your thoughts on changing from normal to synthetic on high mileage vehicles? Thanks

I have a 2000 F150, the previous owner ALWAYS runner Castro’s GTX High Milage. When I did my first oil change myself on it, I went ahead and switched to Full Synthetic High Milage ( 181,000 Miles ). Pretty much the only difference in between the oil. Conventional oil will break down faster than full synthetic oil will. I have not had any problems with it leaking. It’s still the same viscosity as the normal motor oil. That’s my opinion.
