Came across Scotty's "Cleaning a Catalytic converter with lacquer thinner" video yesterday, so I decided to try it today May 16th 2019. I was a little nervous to try this one out, but I seen reviews from others, the comments in this video, and my overall trust in Scotty made me do it. I started off this morning by pouring a GALLON of KLEAN STRIP LACQUER THINNER (Bought it at Walmart) into my 2002 Toyota Sienna CE first thing in the morning before turning it on. My van's gas tank was already exactly half full, so with my luck i found myself following Scotty's exact instructions in this video. I took it for a 150 mile drive (Between 2 to 3 hours is how long it took me). As i drove it, i was going between 60 to 70 mph in the freeway only the whole ride. After the 150 mile drive nothing had happened, the engine light stayed on the whole ride. I am a little disappointed, because for others it did turn off during their ride. But i am not giving up hope, i scanned my van to see if any new codes came up. Nothing just the same p0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1. I just erased the code, hopefully that does the trick, and will not come back on. If it does come back on, i am going to try the next step in this video by removing the catalytic converter and soaking it in laundry soap and water overnight. I am just having a hard time finding a video on how to remove the catalytic converter for my van, and a video on how to pinpoint which catalytic converter is being affected according to p0420. IF ANYONE or SCOTTY YOURSELF IF YOU ARE READING THIS CAN HELP ME FIND A VIDEO ON EITHER one of these topics please reply under my comment with the HYPERLINK OR TITLE of either one of the videos. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY TO FIXING YOUR CAR PROBLEMS ✌ & ❤ .
they are hard to get off, period. when that old, rust and welds often will break things. But after resetting the code, use a tank of shell V power gas, and see what happens. I had a guy drive one years with that code and one day, it just went away and never came back when he switched gas
What's your van year make and model?
