Scotty, I have a 2002 Civic with about 85k miles and the transmission started slipping really bad. I had just bought it like a 1,000 miles ago and the fluid looks(ed) brand new. Can you come to Sugar Land with your fancy scanner and test it?

Hello Scotty,

I started a van conversion project on a 2001 Dodge Ram Van B1500 with 145000 miles on it. It has a known EVAP leak which I am working to resolve as I did a full tune up on it consisting of:

Spark Plugs Spark Plug Wires Distributor Cap Distributor Rotor Engine Air Filter Starter Alternator High Mielage Synthetic Oil Change Oil Filter

I have started building it out and was able to go on a 1600 mile trip with the vehicle.

However, when I got back from the trip about 300 miles later, the vehicle will no longer turn over. I was driving it one time and it randomly shut off. When I was driving it one of the last times after this, the battery gauges went out and then would come back randomly or just stay out. The engine also started misfiring.

Luckily the car made it home for me to work on it. When I turn the key I can hear it cranking but it will not turn over. The odometer has a feature of reading engine codes to me and it now says “no bus”. I have gone through many forums and it is either a fuse or the actual computer.

The reason I have come to this conclusion is because of the engine misfires, the instrument gauge for the battery either stopping or fluctuating and the car now just refusing to turn over.

I tested all of the fuses in both fuse boxes (under the hood and in the cabin) and everything is fine. It seems to be a known issue of these computers failing (dodges) as it is located under the hood, above the engine’s compartment and even near the wipers (which people would contribute moisture related issues to concerning the circuit board).

I have been researching refurbished versus rebuilt ECMs and it all seems very sketchy to me.

Do you agree this this could be the issue? Do you know any good places to either send in my old computer or purchase one? Is there any other information you need in regards to this issue to help find a resolution?

Hey Scotty, how's it goin'? I love your videos! I just had a question, kind of a loaded one. Haha.

Anyway, I recently was gifted (by a family member) a '04 Nissan Maxima with 43,555 original miles; what is your opinion about Nissan in general, the Maxima line, and my particular car/year in question?

I appreciate any time you take to consider answering my question. It would be really cool if you could make a YouTube video about it too! I hope all is well on your end! Take care and hopefully talk to you soon. See ya bud!

Hello Scotty ! YOu are the real boss of my knowledge about cars. My 2009 Yaris Hatchback at 280K is making noise when accelerating. I always use best synthetic oil, filter, and changed spark plugs last year. Have not changed the belt since I bought it last yr at 220K.
