Hi Scotty? Can I ask you a few questions about our suv? Our air conditioner button/switch is not working anymore. In fact we have to tap under the dash board area to get it to turn on. Is that safe? A few months ago the car kept turning off when we tried to go up hills. we eventually got the car services and changed the coils. But from the beginning the car’s muffler has a lot of smoke and we have to keep putting oil in the vehicle every week. That’s not normal. Why is the oil burning so much? There is no visible oil or coolant leaks? Yesterday we put some royal purple 10-30 oil in the car and it drove good. It even didn’t start smoking at first. But this morning the car shut off then we turned it back on a big puff of smoke came out the muffler. Then the car started driving normal again?

Hi scotty, My mom wants to get a new car because her 2014 Subaru Outback has little to now power on the highway, which at this point is unsafe for the roads we drive where we live. What do you think about the new Honda Passports? Are they reliable? Do they have problems?

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2010 Scion XB with a manual transmission. Over time the clutch pedal has become very heavy.

About 4 years ago I had the clutch pedal adjusted so it can be at the same height as the brake pedal.

Now at 93000 miles the clutch is slipping slightly but the heavy pedal is becoming unbearable.

What could be the cause of the heavy clutch pedal?

You have a great youtube channel which I watch daily and love the comical jokes specially the ones that show the animals laughing in the background.

Hope to hear from you.

Hey Scotty. I dont know if you got this message already, but I wanted to ask you if a 2007-2008 Infiniti G35X (AWD) is a good idea to buy. I live in the New York Area, and ive found a few G35Xs with around 90-120k miles that im able to afford. The reason im considering the AWD is because it helps in the snow that we get up here. I've been wondering if their transmissions are ok, as the engines dont seem to have any major issues. I have checked owners fourms, online threads, and other people's comments on your videos and I have been told that the G35s are good, reliable cars. Also, in that car, if you use 87 or 89 octane (it says you have to use 91), does it damage the engine or fuel system or does the PCM or something tune down the engine to prevent damage?

Hi Scotty:

Around Langley, BC, Canada, I sometimes saw a few RHD cars imported from Japan on these roads, such as Nissan R34 Skylines and Mitsubishi Delicas. A few months ago, I saw a Korean-market Hyundai Galloper driving down the road in left-hand drive. I'm looking for a used car as a daily driver. What are your thoughts about the benefits and the risks of buying and importing a used car from Japan or Korea? Especially when it comes to finding replacement parts.

Scotty, My 2013 GMC Terrain 2.4L feels like it jumps when I am slowing down between 20-15mph. I cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the MAF sensor, changed the oil. Any clue what it may be?

Hi Scotty , I have a 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i with a 6 speed manual. The “engine oil level low” light is on but I checked the level and it’s normal with clean oil! What’s the deal? ( no check engine light or any other problems.. only 60k miles) Ps. My mom thinks your hilarious!

Scotty,

Love your videos and have been watching them for a few years now. 1st time question for me. I have a 99 GMC Sierra, 2WD, 5.3L. I have a whump-whump-whump sound coming from my driver front suspension area. I can feel the vibration from the interior floorboard. I’ve already replaced the shock, tie rod end, swapped out tires, and put on a new brake rotor and pads. The wheel hub sounds like no grinding when I spin it and there is no play when I tug on it. I can’t feel any play in the ball joints either. I’m stumped.

Hi Mr Kilmer,

This is James from Australia. Could you please help me? Thank you very much.

My 2002 Corolla will make strange noise and brake pedal will vibrate when I stop the car after a few seconds ( for example in a traffic light). However, when I change the gear to Neutral, all the problems ( the noise and vibration of brake pedal) disappear. The car otherwise, is driving normally and no issues.

The issue happened after the car hit a speed bump a bit hard and I felt something hit the car underneath.

I checked the underneath of the care and there is no new oil leaking. Could you please tell me what is going on?

Thank you very much. by the way, the corolla is auto transmission.

Hi Scotty!!! My wife drives her cars until the wheels fall off. She just replaced her old car with a New 2019 Toyota Camry SE with the 2.5- liter 4 banger and the new 8 speed direct shift automatic transmission. She feels that it is rough shifting and has seen similar complaints online. What do you know about this and a possible Toyota service bulletin TSB #T-SB-0330-17? Thanks Md_Annapolis

Hey scotty my wife, and I plan on buying two used cars one a 2013 - 2015 honda civic ex for her(newly licensed driver), and a 2016 - 2017 honda accord v6 touring for me. She has a 10 - 13k budget, and I a 20 - 25k budget. We chose them based on the idea that they'll last very long (15 - 20yrs), and we wouldnt have to worry about it breaking down on us or having any major issues. Even though we drive more than the average driver we plan on keeping them for awhile. (Possibly 250k miles plus)

What do you think about are choices, and what would you recommend we take extra percaution to when buying these specific models?

Hello Scotty! I just bought a 2013 Lexus GS350 with 58k on it for $19,000. Originally was a $59,300 car. It has a great service history , low miles and best yet, it’s a Toyota deep down. Fast , dependable, safe ( rear side curtain airbags) and AWD . Do you approve of my purchase?

Howdy Scotty, I have a 2005 Ford Escape, 4.0L, Auto Trans, AWD. The alternator stopped charging the battery. I charged it every day to may it to work every day (40 mile round trip). Also I put a multi-meter in the 12v outlet to monitor voltage for the drive every day. I noticed the voltage would go to 15v every so often. After a few weeks the engine shut down while driving the battery had good enough voltage for a couple days. I found a 40 amp fuse blown under the hood. I replaced it 2 times but it blew. I had the alternator replaced a few months later & the engine would turn over but not start. I disconnected the ECM & all sensor & such I could find on the engine & trans.... the fuse still blew. I found a couple more harnesses, disconnected them & the same the fuse blew. Then I pulled all relays & other fuses the 40 amp fuse held. I put all relays & fuses back in both fuse boxes & the 40 held then the ECM, sensor & what not the 40 held. Then everything in the dash didn't work but the engine would start. I put the trans in drive but it seemed to not really be "in gear" also it would take a couple seconds to engage & move the vehicle after the accelerator was pressed. What do you think about this issue? Do you think the torque converter solenoid shorted from over voltage or something else caused that fuse to blow until maybe a ground wire burnt out from my replacing it a few times? I would like to keep the SUV & take to a shop I trust in SA,TX. However I don't want it to cost a fortune having them chase down the issue to repair. I don't mind spending around $1000 for repair & labor.

Scotty,

I sent you a question about my 1997 Avenger ES 2.5 that was stalling at idle and sometimes bucking when I accelerate. Now I have a different problem in that the car is not starting at all. Then engine is spinning over but it sounds like it is just spinning over. I pulled a spark plug wire at the spark plug and there was no spark. I then pulled a spark plug wire at the distributor and there was no spark. I pulled a second wire at the distributor and there was very little spark. Does this sound like a bad distributor coil?

Hey Scotty and community, I have a question in regards my car (1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6) and it’s the MN-12 platform. I’ve scoured the internet for hours, days, and months in regards due to upgrading the k-member to a “tubular style” just to gain better access to the oil pan to fix my slight oil leak. Just to even remotely remove my oil pan, I have to disconnect fuel lines, a/c lines, power steering lines, brake lines, electrical connections, and etc. Then attach engine hoist to stable engine so that the huge chunk of a K- member can be removed so I can then gain access to oil pan. I have yet to find someone who could make one and have offered money for someone to build one and have came up empty handed. I’ve read that it gives you better oil pan clearance and header clearance but that’s hear say. Is it worth the efforts to continue searching or should I just bite the bullet and commit to the headache? I know I’ll have to do it either way but am looking for future service requirements as well.

Hey Scotty or any real professional expert, I am looking to purchase a vehical at a dealership for work travels at 45miles a day and maybe some long distance travels to CA or OR to see family every couple of years. May just rent a car instead. I am looking for a fun car to drive that will be good on gas and be a manual. My price is $9k or under. If location is a concern I live in Indiana. So, what Years, Make, Model, max miles would be your personal reccomendations. Trying to purchase as wise as I can on my money but still have something fun to drive as well. Thanks for helping me make the right choice.

It's a Carbon Anomaly Mr Scott!!

I was looked at buying a used 2008 toyota sequoia with 159K miles on it. It's had ALL of it recommended services at a Toyota dealer and is in almost perfect condition. The only thing I found wrong with it is that there were some carbon flakes in the oil. The mechanic that changed the oil the the dealer that has it now said that the oil was pretty black when they got it in. The funny thing is that the oil was changed by a GM dealer just 7000 miles prior to that. (at about 152K...the GM dealer was were it was traded in by the original owner I think). They used Dexos which is just Mobile 1...so that should be fine. The Toyota dealer that serviced it before that had done an injector steam clean in the 140Kish range. Could those black flakes and carbon in the oil be from that? I currently have a Tundra that has over 100K miles and I have never seen any black in the oil and definitely not black oil before. Any ideas? I had it inspected by a Toyota dealer here and they gave it a clean bill of health. Engine runs strong, no sounds, no smoke. Very very nicely maintained vehicle aside from the carbon anomaly! Should I buy it??

Hello Scotty , i just bought a 1997 honda prelude vtir that has 149,500 km and whenever i accelerate, for some reason it makes whining noises . The owner that i bought it from, said it was always like that since he had it (since 4,900 km) . so is it normal for the prelude to make whining noises when i accelerate (because i did look at some forums and some of them said it was normal due to over an over tightened belt or balance shaft)and if its an issue what could it be. Thanks

Hi Scotty, I bought a 2008 Toyota Corolla with 145k km (Just broken in) about 6 months ago and i have been getting a slight rattle on cold start ups such as leaving it overnight (as shown in my video). I took it into the toyota dealer and they replaced a VVT-I intake gear and claimed the issue was resolved. I am still getting the rattle to this day and whenever i take it into the dealer they claim that it never makes the rattle for them and can't replicate it. It makes this noise every single cold start so i think they just want to sweep this problem under the rug. What would you recommend that i try next? (I have already spent $700 trying to fix it!) Thanks Video:

Hi Scotty, Just needing a quick advice. I have purchased a Toyota FJ Cruiser 2016 about 6 months ago. I have driven about 4k km since and the dealership says it’s due for service. They also say that if not serviced with them it will void the manufacturer and extra warranties. The catch is that they charge $269 for an oil change! Plus whatever else they tell me has gotta be fixed.

In your opinion, do you think that keeping the warranties is a big deal for a car like that? Should I take it to my usual mechanic instead and save a stack of money?

The manufacturer warranty expires in 6 months. The extra goes for another 2/3 years.

Cheers, Henry

Hi Scotty, I have a 1998 Toyota 4Runner V6 4WD and the car does not start when I turn the key to the start position. The car has 250,000 miles and when I try to start it, it does not even crank. Could it be the starter or alternator? The battery is only four months old. Thank you.

hello Scoty, im anton, and i am the prowd owner of a 2005 yaris 1szfe turtle . best horse in town :D

so , last month .. my head engine added a new metalic noise : the folowing video its not my own, but its equal of the noise i had until last week

bought the car last year, changed all consumabiles , and now im prepairing the car for the bi anual revision . from 3 auto shops, 2 of them told me : "ow thats a normal noise.. the f word it is . the third one , explained to me a little about the full syntetich oils, and recomended that i changeit , and add a hydraulic lifter additive . i did that whit the ceapest oil i could find in order to test before i go on fighting the wind mills . the sound , the extra metalic proeminent sound has diminished after a little over 100 km of runing. and my next step -thought is : flush the engine 2 times whit a mid price range additive (im triring to use a single brand additive, in order to know were to go in case of problems . so im using liquid moly, being a older model 2005, when i changed all consumables, i ad\ed a ceratec also) .. il trie to shorten the story. so my plan is: flush two times the engine in order to clean as much as posibile the oil channels , and at the end add a 5w-40 magnatec for his magnetic/in-oil-suspension properties , and the 40 for bigger thickness , to compensate the in-engine-wearness of his use time. + at the end add ceratec , for his ceramic film , and the hydraulic lifter additive , due to the fact that on my test , worked around 30% to 40% .. never the les , the questions are : 1.what can be that noise , and what should i do ; and 2.what i intend to do , its ok , or its only a lost of time , money and nervs .

thanke you

Scotty, I have a 1999 Toyota Camry (California) with the 2.2 5F-SE engine, it threw OBD2 codes P0171, P1130 and P1133. I have changed some vacuum hoses, the MAP sensor, PCV valve, and the A/F sensor. I still get the P0171 code (Lean run), yet the plugs and A/F sensor are black/sooty, which indicates rich condition. I'm not sure where to look. I've checked for intake leaks with carb cleaner, no indication of air leaks. Any ideas? BTW, I have a Creader 3001 OBD2 reader which doesn't work on this vehicle, I had to use an old reader to get the codes.

Hi, Scotty I have a challenging situation. I changed the transmission fluid in my 2015 q50 Infiniti Now i am having a problem with the shifting. I took to Aamoco and they stated the level was fine but the only solution they offered with a total transmission rebuild which seems absurd brand new tranny is 10k used is 3600! I don't know what went wrong. I used automatic transmission fluid full synthetic there is no filer or gasket replacement on q50. The car still runs but not well. Looking for guidance thanks.
