'95 Corolla 1.8 - 294k - Oil Viscosity

'95 Corolla - 294k miles, 10w-40?

Hey Scotty,

I have a '95 Corolla, 1.8L, 5-speed. Engine has 294000 miles on it right now. It burns about 1.25 to 1.5 quarts of oil every oil change (3000 miles). I use Castrol GTX 5w-30 High Mileage (semi-synthetic). Recently I've switched to the Castrol GTX 5w-30 conventional oil. I've been thinking of switching to either a 5w-40 or 10w-40 to help slow down the burning. I live in New England so it gets pretty cold in the winter.

What do you think? Should I not do this? Or should I only do this in the summer when it's hotter outside? Or should I just live with it and top it off with a quart between oil changes?

Keep up the amazing work!
