1993 dodge dakota 3.9 v6- steering broke at steering wheel inside the

steering wheel popped while turning and now is loose ( up and down) and is getting caught on broken part whr it tilts

started with play that worsened, then heard a pop when turning right- made it home ( left turns all the way) went to leave next time & it steers, it turns but something broke behind the wheel about where the tilt and black casing is *. took off all casing but band around column wont come off and steering wheel wont come off so i can't see what part i need and steering wheel get'st hung up when turning, you wiggle it and it will turn but get stuck again, It looks like a plastic part with teeth like a garbage bag tie but with jagged edge the other part that fell out looks like half circle of what may have been a round aluminum, or chrome ring- repair manual says nothing except how to remove steering wheel. any ideas where to start- this is all i have but not worth major investment== engine is great its peripheral bs like suspension, brakes, steering , tranny that is prob going to kill me sooner or later- it's Got 450,000 miles due to being mail truck in country - but engine purrs like kitten-- (SO FAR) does it sound major??

May end up having to replace the whole column, would probably be alot easier as well, but either way pretty sure most yards around me won't have anything that old to pick parts from-only things they'd have would be what they have in stock or can get shipped to them from another yard. If no yard nearby can help, you may be stuck either buying parts at the dealer, or on Ebay for an entire used column. Car-Part.com is another resource for used parts.

heck, get a steering wheel puller, places like auto zones sell cheap ones , some even loan em free. Only hassle will be finding the parts you need for that old thing, you may endup in a junk yard looking
