1986 Chevrolet c10, exact mileage unknown odometer around 160,000. I need some advice Scotty. I purchased this vehicle back in june, it had a bad mechanical fuel pump when I got it, the motor is built it has a bigger cam installed, it’s supposed to make about 400 horsepower. I’m not sure of the exact parts used. I put a new fuel pump on and got the engine running, it ran rough with the Holley 4150 770 cfm carburetor and stalled when put in drive or reverse, so I found an Edelbrock someone was getting rid of cheap that was pretty much new, adjusted it per Edelbrock instructions it ran better but still stalled when put in gear. After that I began thinking ignition related so I upgraded the ignition system and set the timing (18 degrees initial, 36 total). it’s all new from the distributor to the plugs (it needed a tuneup anyway). Problem still exists. I checked the charging system, seems ok I read 14.2 volts with the engine running. Vacuum in the engine is low between 8 and 10 in. Wc. I have not been able to find any vacuum leaks, it has a 700r4 transmission and I’m not sure if there’s a problem with the torque converter. I still haven’t eleiminated vacuum leaks as a problem, maybe I need to use a different method. Is there anything else you suggest I check?

Obviously you're pre-1995 OBDII, but is Check Engine Light "on" at the dash?
