Aprilia Racing mechanics are now using a smart helmet to assist with bike repair in the paddocks. Developed by Realmore, the augmented reality (AR) device allows mechanics to interact with models of pinout connectors, see real time telemetric data, and make a checklist of the wear of certain bike parts.
A remote element allows the chief engineer to communicate with the mechanics by displaying information about tires, gas and laps on an overlay on the helmet screen.
A thermal camera on the helmet can scan the bike and project information about oil and water temperature and check for any other anomalies.
Aprilia used the device in this past weekend's San Marino MotoGP.
